AKULA's Indian Mutiny Project - Pg2 - Mutineer cavalry
« on: August 10, 2024, 07:54:38 PM »

This is a new (old) project for me...like so many gamers, I find myself returning back to periods that I've gamed previously, but (sometimes) in a different scale.

Thread Index - Key Pages
Page 1  -  Mutineer Artillery Battery & rebased Sepoy mutineers
Page 2  -  Three more regiments of sepoy mutineers and some mutineer cavalry

First up are some freshly painted Foundry Mutineer gun crews from my sizeable lead pile.

I've also recently picked up a sizeable painted collection of Foundry miniatures, which need some TLC, as well as rebasing.  The bulk of the figures I use are likely to be a combination of Wargames Foundry, and Iron Duke, but with a few other ranges sprinkled in, including AW, Perry and Wargames Atlantic.

As I said above, this isn't the first time that I've had an Indian Mutiny project...like many gamers I find myself returning to a period I've tried before (sometimes, but not always) in a different scale.  For me this is only the second time I've had a IM project...some periods I've tried 4+ times...  I tried to work out when my first project was, and then I came across the issue of Wargames Illustrated that inspired me the first time.... JUNE 1988

 :o

The "fermentation" stage of this new (old) project has been going on for quite some time as well...

I’m currently toying with the idea of starting an Indian Mutiny project in 28mm...

Guess I'd better get on with it now...  lol

Always liked that cover photo of that issue - and the later issue 48 gave us that wonderful list of units to inspire as well.  Seeing the various Indian Mutiny projects on the go just now pulls me towards getting back to work on my own in 15 mm.  Certainly have WAY MORE THAN ENOUGH figures for it.  And I'd add a few more if someone has proper dhoolies and camel mounted casualties to add in.  But not much more than that - well, appropriate civilians might tempt me - unarmed mostly, perhaps a few armed (though could borrow a lot of the European side from my also languishing Boxer Rebellion project).

Looking good so far.

I never did game or collect this era.  I shall game vicariously through all the current posts on the subject.

Thanks for the comments, I'll endeavour to keep some momentum with this project

 :)

Another new project  o_o lol

I know...you wait ages for one, and then along come "quite a few" at once  lol

Not wanting to derail my own thread, but some are genuinely meant to be "side" projects, which I will dip in and out of, whereas others are more of a focus...

Main (current) project:
- Star Wars...just having a bit of a break to recharge

Secondary projects: ... large in ambition & in the current painting queue when I need a break from the main project
- After the Bomb 1980s Cold War
- Indian Mutiny

"side" projects:... meant to be small in scope but will dip in and out of
- Little Wars - pseudo-nostalgia
- A Very British Revolution - a 1863 "What-if"
- Korean War Mig Alley
- Modern Chinese

Dormant projects: no such thing as a finished project..may return to one day
- Game of Thrones
- Judge Dredd
- Aliens
- Battlestar Galactica

"fermentation" stage ... still thinking about... may happen...then again, maybe not
- Samurai (been there 3 times previously)
- AWI (more of a reboot)

Anyway...back to the Indian Mutiny  ;)

Well, you can't go wrong with the Indian Mutiny.

Matched adversaries, extremely colourful and everything from sieges, big battles, skirmishes.

Excellent stuff.  I’ve been promising myself an Indian Mutiny collection for more years than I care to admit, and am still yet to start.

Have you got any rules sets in mind?

I quite like the look of "The Devil's Wind" but I might also write a simple set of my own.

I'm thinking of larger units and possibly larger bases so I can have a bit more fun with the scenic side of them.

Sharp Practice for the smaller battles and skirmishers are excellent
Mad Dogs & Englishmen for the bigger ones.

Also tried, TMWWBK  but that didn't work out.

Lovely PJs  :)

Definitely mate - the high quality of eye candy threads is one of the best features about LAF - plenty of inspiration to be had.

Another small update today...a unit of Mutineers (still in good order).

Please note - the following unit of sepoys wasn't painted by me - it's part of the painted collection I picked up...some of the figures need some TLC, but this unit only needed rebasing.

I've decided to go with a standard 60mm x 60mm base size for pretty much every troop type (with the exception of commanders/elephants/baggage) - it works out at roughly the same base widths as "The Devils Wind" for Infantry, but gives me a bit more depth, partly to protect bayonets, but also to give the opportunity for a bit more scenic interest on some of the bases.  Regulars will have up to 6 figures on a base, with irregulars only 4 figures (or 2 cavalry).
