Post-ECW border skirmishes armament question
« on: 13 August 2024, 05:52:38 PM »
I've been thinking about getting my little gaming group to play some fast-paced skirmish games in the borderlands in the aftermath of ECW, with moss troopers, weary  Commonwealth troops etc. But pikes seems kinda out of place in such small scale engagements. What should I equip these fellas with? Halberds? Spears? Swords and bucklers? Thanks in advance

Bills for the most part. Depending on how well equipped they were, some generic short pole arms would do as well; help break up the uniformity somewhat

Thanks! Would any of these sets fit the bill (no pun intended lol) (Perry EA8 Halberds and WR21 Bills) or are there any better sets out there?

They'd be fine  :)

Captain Blood also has a couple of bits that might prove useful as well.

They could also just saw the ends off their pikes to make them more useful in confined spaces - effectively turning them into spears.

Useful little thread. I'm gearing up for a mid-C17th skirmish and have a few packs of pikemen I was wondering how to equip.
