Winter_Terrain_&_Frostlings
« on: August 15, 2024, 09:10:32 PM »
Just as I promised comes now a selection of pics of what I have built/painted in the last weeks. In regards of the terrain a WIP is also shown. Have fun!:

Winter Terrain:
Two forest pieces with tree bases which can be attached via magnets. There are also four large rocks to be found. In addition shown in this folder are ice crystals (resin) and five ice bases for an elite upcoming Frostling unit. The models themselves are from Brother Vinni (Dungeon Guards) and are taking now a bubbly bath to get rid of resin residues:

Wood Golem:
This is a model from the Frostgrave manufacturers:

Ice Queen:
This is a Reaper miniature:

Winter Wolves:
Models from GW:

What is currently on the painting table? A large Ice Worm for practicing his colour scheme. Four of his brothers are still in blister packs (Reaper minis). Also on the painting table is a sword-wielding battle nun (Reaper mini).

I like the figures in the links, the painting is good and the basing certainly looks chilly! She’s painted well, but I always chuckle when I see Reaper’s ice queen figure - she seems a little under-dressed. Must have some serious magical abilities to compensate for the holes in her outfit.

She is not human but fey so they don´t have the same fashion sense as mortals. Besides she is immune to cold environments and cold spell effects. According to Age of Wonders lore (Frostlings) Ice Queens are relatives of Nymphs but their habitat is that of the Northern regions and they don´t waste their time seducing mortals like their Southern cousins do.

Even being human doesn't mean a lot in a world where magic is common and you can keep yourself and your followers warm by casting a little spell or drinking a little potion. My human Necromancer for Frostgrave clads herself and all of her retinue in her very own preferred fashion style...

As far as I remember, yes.

And we continue with creatures from the North:

Ice Worm

It is the first one from a unit of five. One is enough for a Frostgrave scenario in which you hunt such a beast. More can be used as Monstrous Infantry in R&F games.

The name is the game!    :)

Edit:
Now we need to finish the Battle-Nun.

More raw materials have been bought for future projects. The aim is to build ruins and hills.

Nice painting there. Especially digging those dark and cold tones you went with ice queen & nun and also icy bases of wolves, all really sell the idea of them being in a cold and harsh environment of the setting.
What I'm wondering though is, with all the fallen snow on its back, has the worm frozen solid or is it just waiting extremely patiently for a victim to walk past? lol

The worm has lurked for a while, like many members on online forums, beneath the snow to gobble up suitable victims. That´s why he has snow on it´s back. Although the real reason is that the wolves and the worms are large models so they can sell the idea of being in a snow storm.

Putting large amounts of snow on the Ice Queen and The Battle-Nun is not advisable because they are simply smaller minis and thus would be obscured.

And thanks for the praise!

Model wise the remaining four worms will come next. And then the first five girls from Brother Vinni (Dungeon Guard). Those will form an elite regiment of the Frostlings with bikini chainmail and halberds.

Hahah, ain't that the truth. :D Snow storm does make a lot of sense, though it's not quite as funny as imagining worm taking it easy, just waiting mouth wide open for some snack.

I found a bunch of old Undead minis from an obscure manufacturer. So I had to paint them before the rest of the worms. Here we go:

Momentarily a Lich is also on the painting table from the same manufacturer. It will probably be finished tomorrow.
