My modest Mahdist War project
« on: August 23, 2024, 09:11:48 PM »
Aiming to build up enough figures to play 24 pt games of MWWBK. Have figures on the way to build out forces for Suakin and Nile expeditions of 1884, having a ton of fun painting these up!

Absolutely love these Perry Camel Corps. Great variety of poses if you mix the sets. Goggles, bandoliers, a nice color scheme, these guys got it all. Just wish the rifles sculpts were a bit sharper. These are maybe some of the best paint jobs I've done.

@Misterdirector1, beautiful brush work and basing indeed! I’ve never seen those Sikh sculpts before. Who makes them!

Here's something you don't see in wargaming everyday: Perry's captured Egyptian Krupp 6 pdr. When the Bija tribe joined the Mahdi's rebellion in Sudan, they captured enormous amounts of rifles, cannons, and even machine guns from the defeated Egyptian army. Egyptian soldiers who surrendered were pressed into service.

At the second battle of El Teb, Egyptian crews were chained to their cannons by the Bija and forced to fire on the advancing British. They fired canister shells, which were ineffective at that range, suggesting the crews may have intentionally sabotaged their own fire. Regardless, these crewmen were among the first casualties as the British brought their own artillery into range.
