Perry French Plastic for Light Infantry?
« on: August 29, 2024, 08:17:33 AM »
Hello all,
I was wondering if the Perry French 1807-1814 sets could be used to represent Légère regiments too or if I am missing something. I get the impression that the Elite company box, with the right heads, could be used to make Light Infantry too, but has any of you tried this?
Thanks!

Depends how much accuracy you want - I think most light infantry had pointed lapels rather than the square cut of the line infantry.

Search French Legere uniforms and French line infantry Napoleonic uniforms online. Compare the images found. If you aren't very fussy a paint brush can supply the difference.

With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

I believe Light infantry had shorter coat tails than the Line.

You are only missing that the coats were not quite the same, and nor were the boots.

So they 'could be used to represent Légère regiments' depending on whether or not it bothers you that they are not exactly right. It's similar to using Austrian figures for Hungarian regiments: not exactly right, but very hard to see that it's not exactly right with the right paint.

Hat does offer five boxes of 28mm French light infantry, but they are a little smaller, measuring about 26mm from foot to eye level.

A simple compromise might be to get specific legere command figures in metal and paint the plastic ligne for the rank and file.

Put everyone in greatcoats - problem solved.

I plan to use the Victrix Middle Guard for that very reason.
