Ninefingers' Viking Age Stuff (Updated 05/01 with command bases)
« on: September 04, 2024, 09:25:57 PM »
Having more or less finished my Britons and Early Saxons project, I've now moved back to my one true love; the Viking Age. I've got a lot of stuff already for this period (Saxons, Norse/Danes, Irish etc) but I'll chronicle everything from now on here.

First up are some Vikings from the Ragnorok/Gripping Beast range, fending off a hail of arrows from some cowardly Saxons. Some of the men have gone down already, but I've still maintained two bases of six figures for a full unit of twelve.

Next up is a Viking commander (a very grand figure from Gripping Beast), an Irish prince (also from Gripping Beast), and a Saxon king (from Alternative Armies I think? Not the best sculpt, looks a bit like Captain Pugwash...)

If you're interested in seeing other Viking Age stuff I have, there are links to battle reports from my blog below:

The Battle of Clontarf 1014
The Battle of Northam 1069 (slightly late but still all the right protagonists!)

Nice work.  I look forward to the rest of the project (and I'll have to check out your links also).  I have Ragnorok (amongst others) on the painting table and am looking for inspiration.

Excuse me....what's wrong with Captain Pugwash  ;)

Some Normans finished off today. Bishop Odo of Bayeux (Footsore) and three units of Norman infantry (two Conquest, on Victrix). Plus some of the wounded/dead from the Conquest sprues.

Excellent looking figures.
Had to laugh, (at my self.)
I have a half finished Viking army.
I wonder how many others are in the same boat.

Those all look excellent! I like that you have mixed in figures from several manufacturers, it gives a good variety to each unit.

These look great, really love to see viking armies come together!

The colors really say viking-era to me as well. Nice work!

Midgard down in Bognor, a Saxon force attacking a band of Viking raiders.

The initial single combat before the two armies clashed saw a Viking braggard cut down by a brave, but proud, Saxon champion.

On the back foot already, the slightly disheartened Viking force surged forward to mitigate the Saxon ranged weapons. The line fractured into smaller fights and the Vikings suffered a further blow when another of their heroes was cut down in combat.

Despite destroying a couple of Saxon units, the Vikings couldn't recover from their losses and the heroism of the Saxons, and fled the field.

Final reputation score Vikings -6 Saxons 10
