Color Pallet for Vietnam Tiger Stripe
« on: September 12, 2024, 05:53:36 PM »
Does anyone have a good recipe for this camouflage?

I am especially wondering what color to use for that white/gray.

Thanks.

It's actually a very light tan.  That's what I use.

Can you recommend the color of light tan?

And what's your favorite OD color for a base coat?

My painting stuff is over at my wargames building.  I'll go over and make some notes about colors, and let you know.  Might be a day or 2, though.

Please note that there are a number of colors and patterns when talking about tiger stripes.  I'll try to provide notes on how I did a few different ones.

IIRC LAFer Ash has given a description of how he painted his amazing renditions of Tiger Stripe on his own thread. Have a search or ask the man directly.

You have a wargames building?!?!?!?

All I have is a cluttered up dining room table and an increasingly irritable wife.

Yep.  And I just read your post to Mrs. Jim.  She said that's why I have a wargames building!  The dude we bought it from literally made us an offer we couldn't refuse.  She even authorized me to smoke cigars there...

You lucky punk... I still would like to know a good light tan color.
Have mercy on those of us who don't have a wargaming building...  ;)

My old tiger-stripe pants appear to have been printed on a very light tan fabric, but the dominant base colour would be closer to Vallejo German Camo Beige I think.

That's a good suggestion! I use geman camp beige as the base colour for US Woodland, I've tried Stone Grey for the tiger stripe base but it provides too much contrast.

That jogged my memory!  Vallejo's German Camo Beige is the color I use.  As for greens, I'll get back with those colors...

Here's a good article.  Larger scale than our little 28mm dudes but it shows where that khaki vs. green appear.

May I also suggest you checkout ‘PaintingPanzers’ channel on YouTube …he recently did a Macv Sog painting showcase including tiger stripe recipe for Gringo 40’s excellent figs.

Hope this proves useful….

Take a large dollop of white, add a small bit of black, brown, and or yellow repeat as needed until you get a match. No matter what you try, it will probably look like something correct.   Uniform lots varied in their tints and shades and wear and tear is going to fade them in unique ways. Don’t get hung up on exactness. Believe your eyes.
