Frugalmax's fantasy hoopla (Longsnout Orcs Reviewed p.2)
« on: September 13, 2024, 06:31:26 AM »
Hello!

Rather than start a new thread each time I create a video or want to share something, I thought I'd create one topic for all of them (until, that is, I change my mind).

Anyway, the second video is a pretty straightforward one on using cheap dollar store or big box store plants for scenery- come for the plants, stay for the... well it doesn't take that long to look at the plants.

A couple of photos are below. Enjoy!

Genuinely funny and inspiring stuff. I'd be heading to dollar tree right now if I was up for breaking in.

 lol

I have a fairly extensive collection of jungle plants made in just this manner, excepting the "defunct currency" . . .

Thoroughly enjoyed the video.  Hope to see more!

@Minus- Thank you! And yes, waiting until the dollar store opens is probably the better idea, both from the ethical and the risk/reward perspective. lol

@boneio- Much appreciated! You must be a person of discerning taste and great intelligence!

@DalyDR- Thank you! More is on the way!

Hello!

Well, a few weeks back some adventurers escaped a prison cell, wandered some corridors, and when they came to a spiral staircase that wen in both directions, they decided to go down... the fools! Of course this meant we had to make some cheap dungeon tiles that could possibly pass for either caverns or paved corridors. Hope you enjoy!

Hello!

We needed some non-empire, non-bretonnian, human troops for our long-running, not-exactly-warhammer-fantasy campaign, and the Oathmark infantry from Northstar seemed to fit the bill. But they needed more heads, especially ones that defied any sense of historical cohesion, so some chopping and glueing and a bit of green-stuffing later and we've got some fantasy infantry, ready to defend and/or burn the village as you see fit.

Hope you enjoy!

@Elbows - Thank you! I always figure if you and your friends are heading towards certain doom you might as well wear a good assortment of hats.

Simple conversion time!
Or so I thought. Heads went flying. Glue was spilt. Paint was splattered. Green stuff stuck to everything. Ah, good times.

Featuring a Wrath of Kings House Teknes pig head by CMON, a mutant puppet master made of Bones USA/Siocast by Reaper, and an old Citadel Dwarf from the Fantasy Warriors/Fantasy Regiments early plastic box set.

Enjoy!

Here we go again with another video nobody asked for! This time we're out to answer another age old question that has plagued humankind at least since the introduction of thermoplastics: Which miniature material is best (for your particular needs)? And of course as we can't actually compare them all because who knows how many different types of plastic are actually being used out there, we focused on those made by Reaper (Bones PVC, Bones Black hard plastic, Bones USA/Siocast, RM Print 3D print stuff, and ye olde Pewter) and the good old H.I.P.S. sprues.

Hope you enjoy!

And here's some of the miniatures that were definitely harmed in the making of this video (Top to bottom: all together, metal, Bones PVC, Bones Black, Bones USA, RM Print with some HIPS conversions, HIPS Plastic):

"That one is perfect."
Comment from a totally non-biased dragon about the only other dragon in the lineup  lol

"It seems to cut pretty easily."
"He says as he struggles against the little plastic toy"

"His weakness shines for all to see"

And then this moment when the nail clipper breaks lol

Loving your videos, there is always something to smirk or laugh about, with all those unexpected comments. I am looking forward to see more of them!

What was the plastic frame from shortly showing up at minute 8:30? And I wasn't able to identify the Reaper Bones figure at the left at minute 12:20 (or at the fourth picture), do you recall the name?

Did the nail clippers make a dent at all in the metal, before they broke? lol

@Mikai - Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! More will come!... one of these days... I think... possibly.

The first plastic sprue that has the head that ends up on the Bard body is from the Wood Elf Glade Riders kit from GW, which appears to have gone the way of the Dodo. Glancing at ebay they seem to go for silly prices now, but some of the bits can be gotten for almost reasonable prices.

The second sprue that shows up is from the Oathmark Light Elf Infantry, and that head gets put on the dual-wielding bendy-Bones model, along with some swords from a Mantic Elf (sprue not shown onscreen).

The Elf Wizard Lady on the left at 12:20 is Anthanelle, Elf Wizard from Reaper. My version is Bones Black (https://www.reapermini.com/search/elf%20wizard/latest/44008), but that appears to be out of stock, though they do have a Bones USA version: https://www.reapermini.com/search/elf%20wizard/latest/07028 and a metal version: https://www.reapermini.com/search/elf%20wizard/latest/04086

@Terry Deathstrike - Thanks! Funny thing about those nail clippers- they had actually served as my best tool for cutting metal miniatures for years, albeit for smaller cuts such as removing a hand, a weapon, or a base tab. They made really straight, clean cuts relatively easily.  Finally bit off more than they could chew!
