Terminator Wargaming- What rules and Why?
« on: November 28, 2009, 05:56:56 PM »
Okay, I've dropped plenty of hints and an emailed list to my wife about what I want for christmas :)

So assuming everything goes to plan, and if it doesn't I'll just buy stuff myself over a couple of months, I'll have the basis for Terminator gaming. I already have the Copplestone scavenger figures and extras will come from Pig Iron at some point I expect. I have some figures for terminators and the resin ground HK. I should soon have a couple of aerial HK's and the big Harvestor figure (which will be great once detailed!) and will set about converting/building some mototerminators. What I'm missing is a rules set. What do people suggest?
So many projects..... so little time.......

I'd go with 5150 from Two Hour Wargames for bigger skirmishes, the 2HW system has a great feel for desperate firefights.

There is a free PDF add on for it in the Yahoo Group called The Holy Church of Instumentality that has some good ideas for robots that would be spot on for Terminators (slow to react and keep getting back up).

For smaller actions, infiltration or 'have you seen this boy?' type games, Rattrap is always a favourite as it nicely covers more than just combat.

Any chance you can send it to me? Don't really want to have to join yet another Yahoo group....

Do they have a sci-fi set?

Should have found time to try that at BLAM :(

If you are looking for skirmish rules, what about Mutants and Death Ray Guns from Ganesha Games?

I'm fairly sure they would cover most of your troop types, although they may need modded for the vehicles. They seem like they are pretty adaptable as the SoBaH rules engine has been used for three or four different settings now.

And they are dirt cheap too...  ;)

Chris Peers Future Wars have rules for Terminators but they work out very expensive pointswise . I have not tried the Terminators out yet as I've just painted them.

Leading Edge Games released the now out-of-print Terminator 2 Miniatures Game back in the 1990s. You may still be able to find rules for it on ebay or used game shops. The rules play very quickly, are fairly detailed, and are specific to the Terminator setting--including rules on Terminator ground and aerial HKs. They were a lot of fun each time I took them out for a spin.

I second the -Mutants and Death Ray Guns from Ganesha Games

Might also want to look at the Skank Rules. Just a little tweaking and they'll work fine.

I've used them for zombie, post apcoalyptic, alien hunting, and pulp.

I would wait for Flying Lead from Ganesha Games.
In the meantime I would play with Song of Blades and Heroes

I would use FAD because it's very simple and fast, and allows you to create very different units: terminator robots (who ignore enemy fire and advance relentlessly!), professional soldiers, survivor gangs...

For smaller games based on the first two films, "Rezolution" has a very cool action flick feeling, if you don't mind writing your own stats for the characters.

I'm guessing FAD is Fast and Dirty. I've heard of it although never seen it.

As usual, as many opinions as posters :D lol

Definately quite a few to check out, thanks.

Sorry! As Dewbakuk guessed, I meant Fast And Dirty:

Now they have a LAF-like forum too but I can't remember the url.
