Holt 75 tractor resin print
« on: September 22, 2024, 11:16:08 AM »
Had to share this with the forum, first print of the chassis of a Holt 75 tractor as a 3D model and print. Can't believe how well it came out for the very first print - normally it takes three or four prints to get the support structure right, especially when it has this much detail. There are a few tiny issues - one of the cylinders hasn't wholly printed for instance - but that's it.

I had this as a freehand-modelled and resin-cast model previously but honestly wasn't viable as a model to sell - too many individual parts and a 50%-or-so hit rate on perfect casts. But this should be far more sensible, hoping to get this as 5 parts or thereabouts.

The other learning out of this was to remove the support matrix before curing the resin, using Elegoo ABS-like resin it retains flexibility for a while (a bit like the old Airfix polyurethane) and the whole of the support block tore off in one go. Brilliant.

Lovely level of detail.

These big steam tractors have something about them!

That’s very nice, I’ll be interested in seeing the tracked sections and the details there, especially on the inner track, well done!

Wow, it looks great.
Sad though that 3d printing will kill traditional scratchbuilding in a few years.

The track detail is good, nice to see the guide teeth and inner surface detail are included a lot of 3D printed tracked vehicles do not feature them…

Very nice.

I think what motivates 'traditional' scratch building will never go away.  Might be fewer folks doing it but some will still keep there hand in.

But, oh, yeah, 3D printing is making a Huge Difference in what is being put on the table for certain.

I doubt it.  Scratch building is way more fun, gets you high points when on the table and is usually cheaper.
