6mm Action east of Budapest 11/44
« on: September 28, 2024, 06:07:02 PM »
This was based on an action that occurred on November 4, 1944 to the east of Pest in the village of Felsohalom. In this case the Soviet 4th Guards Mech Brig had taken the high ground and was holding it with 4 76mm ATGs, an infantry company (7 sections), 2 Maxim MMGs, and a pair of ATRs.  They were not dug in but were able to use terrain to conceal themselves.  Reinforcements consisting of a T34/85 plat and a pla of SMG armed tank riders were expected. The Russians could be deployed up to the edge of the village and down to the RR track.  The village and center of the table is higher than the ground to the left.  Axis had a company of Hungarian infantry, 5 Zrinyi assault guns, a Turan II and a Nimrod. Also a grenadier platoon from the Feldherrnhalle with 2 MMG teams  Unfortunately we had to pack up before the Russian reinforcements arrived. 6mm minis and I Ain't Been Shot Mum rules played at GigaBites Cafe in Marietta GA
The idea for this scenario came from the massive Armoured Warfare in the Battle for Budapest book by Norbert Szamveber  The pattern in this campaign seems to be a Soviet attack takes a position  The Axis counterattack and retake the position.  Then the Axis must usually retreat to keep their flanks secure or a lack of reserves prevents them from holding the ground.

Beautiful table and miniatures - one day my 6mm WW2 will look like this (optimism set to max). My infantry is based on rounds like yours and I like the effect.

Great stuff!

I like the round bases for the infantry, they look good but seem to be uncommon in WWII games

A nice encounter. Saw some GW and various card  games being played at GB, but never historicals. And now I'm in the  wargames desert of Bradenton.

GgaBites has plenty of historicals happening.  I know that there is an ACW Sharp Practice this evening. I run a weekly WWII air game there also. Most games posted on the No Ga Hist.Gamers Grp Fb   https://www.facebook.com/groups/GeorgiaHistorical
Not much I know of down in Manatee though.  I game with a group up in Largo when I'm in FL
Thanks for all the comments.
