Does anyone make square slotta bases with vertical edges?
« on: September 30, 2024, 05:12:13 PM »
For rank-and-flank games, I have lots of 28mm figures on MDF squares, which I greatly prefer to slottabases because of how the vertical edges lock together. But do any companies make slotta equivalents: 20mm and 25mm squares (preferably solid) with a slot for a figure tab?

Thanks in advance for any pointers! I did have a brief search but turned up nothing.

Laser cut bases are probably your best option as the slot can be cut to your requirements.

Happy to look into it for you if you drop me a pm  :)
cheers

If you have, or have access to, a 3d printer, that's also worth considering. I did a bunch for Oathmark figures, with a recess to drop the base into.

with a unit of Elves

Easy enough to modify to take a slotta tab, or even the round Mantic bases

Wargames Atlantic showed a preview of 40mm square bases, with a recess for puddlebases.

Given the considerably weirder shapes they've made for me, I'm sure both Warbases and Pendraken could make MDF slotta bases for you.
There are 100 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who can work from incomplete data.

Thanks, everyone! It turns out Warbases do exactly what I'm after (2mm MDF with both diagonal and straight slots). Those recessed bases look interesting too, especially for Grenadier/Forlorn Hope figures with their big, thick integral bases.

For what it's worth, and I know that a) it's not what you asked, and b) you're sorted now anyway....

Ral Partha do a variety of recessed bases in metal, which I have used for plastic figures to provide a bit of weight and stability.

I'm also sure you can buy plastic versions by the bag off ebay, as I often use them for pre-slotta and other puddle based figures.

Usefully, I can't remember the name of the seller I got them from... :?

That's not a bad shout! If I have plastics to mix in at any point, I might look at those RP bases. Thanks!

Sounds like you're set, but one more source you might find usefull in the future is

Eccentric Miniatures.  They make 20mm squares with straight sides and a recess in the middle.

20 for $2

Their figures are a bit primitive, but they make some great weapons and shields and accessories for true scale 28mm miniatures at very low prices.

Heads up that Mantic & Renedra sell 20mm & 25mm bases like that.
