AK47 Zaio invades Numsia.
« on: October 03, 2024, 07:50:35 PM »
We haven't played AK47 for a while, so I thought it time. :D
Bob (Flatpack) turned out to be the aggressor.
Poor John the victim of his attack.
8217 = John's TSB Militia prepare to deny the attacker one of his objectives.
For those not familiar with AK47 (WHY NOT !!!!) the attacker nominates
three objectives. Both side know what they are, but only the attacker
knows what each is worth (30,20 or 10 points) Hence the elephant.
John has a bad wargaming history with pachyderms. :D
8218 = Numsian heavy armoured cars rushing to help hold the hill.
8219 = A veritable horde of Zaio jeeps with Recoiless Rifles (RR)await them.
Zaio has gone for cheap & loads of them.
8220 = Numsia's 'heavy Brigade prepare to engage the Jeeps.
8221 = Confident in the ability of the jeeps, Bob moves his tanks towards one
of his objectives on his left flank.
8222 & 8226 = In the centre poor quality Zaio infantry, chanting their tribal
warchants, (something about the sky being blue) advance against Elephant hill

8223 =The shoot out between Numsia heavy armoured cars & Zaio's jeeps is bloody!
In a very short period of time two jeeps are taken out, but the Numsians are wiped out!
To put it into the relative points value Zaio lost 20 but took out 150  :o
8227 = On Elephant hill it is just as bad. Numsia losses mount. Not helped by a shortage
            of ammunition (random event).
8228 = With nothing to stop them the jeeps move on to their right flank objective (Rhino Rise)
8229 = Reinforcements start to arrive & Bob's (nearest the camera) watch as John tries to
rush two truck loads of infantry to Elephant Hill.
8230 = The trucks have to endure a torrent of fire from three sides. No big surprise first one
truck blows up, then the other. Survivors put up a fight, but they are overwhelmed.

There was a prolonged exchange of fire (on Bob's left flank) between his tanks and Johns
late arriving Mortars. This had about as much effect as Oddball's pink paint shells in Kelly's
Heroes (Great film IMO). The mortars being poorer quality, & not in a tank, failed first.
As the game time ran out we totaled up the points.
You take the lower player score from the higher one & the difference tells you the level of
the victory. 21+ = This general will be writing the history on this one...
Bob had a score in the eighties!!!!!

Still an enjoyable game & fun was had. :D

As part of my ongoing sort out, I needed to add a unit of a few bases to my Navy force (what stood in
for the Numsians) as it was possible for them to gain said unit through the Political Flowchart,
(one of the many nice bits in AK47).
The rules said what it should be:-
Mercenary unit hired to strengthen/build new unit. led by Mad Rupert of the Guards.
This new unit has 3 professional groups of infantry (with small-arms),1 Heavy weapons
group (RPG or HMG) and two trucks.
Well for various reasons that is not what I made.
1) I left the making to the day before.  :?
2) Although I do have lots of AK47 spares I was missing some of these.
3) I wanted it to be different from Mad Rupert.
SO...
I pointed up what they offered  & having looked in the box created something.
In honour of a wargaming friend we lost this year (Garry Ashcroft, aka Dice-master) I present

Captain Garry Ashcroft's command.
Formally of the Bengal Lancers (which are referred to locally as 'The Benny Goodman Dancers)
It comprises:-
I APC (can carry two bases) onto the roof of which was supposed to be a HMG, but
the sergeant Garry sent to 'find' one came back with an anti-aircraft gun. :o
Garry had it bolted to the roof, 'Job done!'
1 'truck' actually an amphibious jeep with hmg and
two bases of Infantry (one of which has Garry in one of his trademark Hawaiian shirts.)
It is not expected to see Capt. Ashcroft ever out of the protection of the APC, 'It's dangerous
out there! I could get hurt!!!' but you never know. lol
Under Garry's direction a garish camo scheme was applied to the vehicles.

THEN

They never got chosen from the Political Flow Chart. :-X :-[ :'(

Ah well they are there ready & waiting, if not eager. :D

A.  Nice report.  Which side were the good guys?  :D

B.  That camo could present some problems for folks with red-green color-blindness... :o

Attackers - Zaio.
Defenders - Numsians.

From a Zaio point of view, we had seen enough of the boarder skirmishes with Numsian troops dressed as nuns and nurses in recent weeks.
It was time for us to firmly put out foot down (whilst avoiding elephant pats).

We raised our standard and crossed the boarder.

We deployed our armour to our left and our light jeeps with RR’s to our right.

In the centre, we massed our foot troops, to take on elephant hill.
We understood Numsian troops depressed as nurses were holding elephant hill.
It was only as we approached them, that we realised they were actually sailors.

Numsian pesky armoured cars arrived, but our jeeps took them out immediately.

Before

After

In the centre, our brave boys took on the nurses dressed as sailors, or was it the other way round  lol

Our armour outflanked the nurses sailor boys.

Those sailor nursery boys didn’t stand a chance, and elephant hill was ours.

More Numsian troops were hurriedly trucked in.
Zaio troops successfully ambushed them.

Looks more like scrapyard challenge afterwards…

A token force of Numsian ice cream salesmen with mortars turned up on our left flank, but they were cut down by our armour.

All in all, a good day for Zaio forces.
Don’t think we will see anymore cross boarder raids from Numsian forces, no matter what fancy dress they are wearing.  lol

Thanks to Pete for a fun game.

We asked the senior Zaio commander on the field after the battle.
He said, 'We, most definitely, are the Good Guys'

We tried to get a quote from a Numsian  officer, but couldn't find a live one anywhere near the battlefield.  ???

The ranking Zaio officer, let's call him...Bob,  declined to comment on the statement that the Zaio flag is Black & White
because the big bad Numsian general grabbed the whole box of coloured felt-tips.  lol lol lol

Very interesting.

I can just hear the fire commands in those M48s:  "Gunner, HEAT, elephant in the open..."

I don’t know what a 90mm HEAT round would do to an elephant, but I expect that it would be very messy.  :o “Direct hit! Clean up on hill 82 please!”

Hopefully it’s a nimble elephant and danced out of the way. Or, possibly more likely, the 90mm gun sights aren’t well maintained and the round goes very long/short/wide.

Accidental "unfriendly fire," or intentional??  lol

Oh no.  It was quite intentional.  The damned thing walked right behind the target at which I fired.  My gunner las'ed the pig and the target - both 1800 meters (at night).  So I waited a few seconds to fire, and got a 2-fer.   8)

And, no, Mr. Magnus, there wasn't much left of the poor thing.  Let's just say the terminal ballistic effect was catastrophic... :o

I've heard of 'Crashing Boars', even met a few, but not before heard of...exploding boars. lol lol lol.

There is, in the dice game 'Pass the Pigs' a score called, 'Making Bacon'. Would that apply? :D
