Imperial Cuirassiers
« on: December 01, 2024, 09:04:53 PM »
I appeal to the members of this forum, having a start of Imperial army in 1898 Miniaturas figurines, I would like to make a unit of cuirassiers, but at the latter it does not exist yet. According to you from which manufacturers I should take my cuirassiers, so that they are roughly identical to the Miniaturas. Thank you for your suggestions.  ;)

Avanpost have a small but excellent range of TYW cuirassiers that are apparently close to the 1898 Miniaturas figures in terms of heft and proportions. The only hiccup is that they are only available in resin as I don't think IL Miniatures - the Avanpost rep for Western Europe - can import the metal versions.

Otherwise, the Empress (ex-Bohemian Miniatures) TYW range is probably the best out there for the early period of the war and should work with 1898 Miniaturas, especially if you keep the figures in separate units. Both ranges use the same Ebob horses and should prove compatible despite the different sculpting styles.

Thank you Arthur for your suggestions. It is true that the Avanpost range is very pretty, but I think that the resin figurines in the handling during an encounter are not very solid in the long run. They are more in my opinion for dioramas. I will go see the Empress and I will see, in any case they will stay together in unit, so not too much problem.  ;)

Doesn't Avanpost also offer the same figures in metal? Or is that just their infantry models?

My recollection is that Avanpost only ever made certain of its foot figures in metal. When I asked them they said that they weren't going to make any cavalry figures in metal because of problems with casting (they didn't say what those problems might be).  At the moment, probably because of the war in Ukraine, I don't think they are making any figures in metal at all.

Arthur was telling me about the resin cuirassiers from Avanpost, and I told him that I didn't want to take a resin figurine because it was too fragile in a multitude of handling. That's why I was going to look at the Empress figurines.
I confirm what Paul said, because I read in various posts that Avanpost would not make metal cavalier figurines.  ;)

Calvin, I don't know what period of "Imperial" you mean but would the new Wargames Atlantic plastic "conquistador cavalry" which I think can pass muster until the early 17th century pass muster as Curassiers?

Sorry SJWi, I should have been more specific in my request. These are cuirassiers for TYW. I'm going to check out the new plastic "conquistador cavalry" from Wargames Atlantic. But to tell the truth I'm not a fan of plastic figures, I think I'm old school of metal figures.  ;)
