Luke's PostApoc Wasteland
« on: October 20, 2024, 08:24:54 PM »
Long time viewer of this forum, now deciding to actually post some projects out there.
My major focus in the miniature sphere has always been stuff related to Fallout, which I use the This Is Not A Test rules to play with.

My most recent task I completed was that of a vertibird. On thingiverse, I found a low poly version of the fallout 3 vertibird. Over the course of a year (like about an hour each month, I know I am just a big procrastinator) I turned it into a higher poly model that could be put together like an airplane model kit.

My end result definitely went together like a model airplane....like a 1970s Revell model plane with a outdate/overused mold. It wasn't until I have the thing assembled and began painting that I realized I was missing several detail bits on it. Probably going to turn this one into some sort of wreck and print out another one, with proper details.
Printed on a Cr10S. An Elegoo Mars was used for the dome gun and orb thingies on the front.

Notwithstanding missing parts and challenges with assembling it, the finished model looks pretty good (IMO).

And welcome to posting on the forum!

I like the finished product also; what were the final dimensions on your vertibird / what scale are you using?
If my wife asks, I only spent half as much as I wanted to...

Yeah so I am using this for 28mm gaming.
The dimension:
Front of nose to back of tail (not including nose gun)= 8.25 inches or ~21cm
End of wing to wing (not including propeller) = 7.5 inches or ~19cm
These aren't exact measurements, just used a tape measure to get as close as possible.

Also another project I completed right before the vertibird, an NCR tank
The base model is a Warlord Games Sherman V. I 3d modeled the lights, back boxes, and side tubes to make it visually similar to the tank seen in Fallout Tactics

I like the vertibird -- nice job on rendering it into miniature. Sounds like you've got quite the skill set with this build. Did you make a mold for it to cast more? Or was this a one-off scratch-build model?

For miniatures, I am using quite a wide variety: Brother Vinni's, Bolt Action Conversion, Wargames Factory Survivors, Reaper Miniatures, Vermilion 3d prints, etc.

Nah, I am currently 3D printing another vertibird again. No plans to do any casting

Second vertibird under construction plus a pic with miniatures for scale.
Mr. Handy is a Brother Vinni mini. The tribal is a conversion using Perry Miniatures Sudanese tribesman with wargames factory orc arms and spear. Helmet was an old T51 "wastefall helmet" 3d print from shapeways I got a long time ago.
