15mm Splintered Light vs Forged In Battle
« on: October 30, 2024, 05:19:44 PM »
Can I pick the brains of 15mm players? How do the Dark Ages ranges ofForged In Battle from the UK and Splintered Light from the US compare size-wise? Particularly the early saxon and Arthurians? I have some FiB which I really like but would like some of the characters etc from Splintered Light to add some colour. It looks like they should be a reasonable fit but hopefully someone can confirm.

Not sure how helpful it will be but there are photos of a variety of 15 mm figures at this link:

The FIB figures are civilians on foot, not sure about the Splintered Light but I have a number of their figures - mostly Robin Hood and Vikings and a few others.

But I'd say the two should be broadly compatible, especially if you are doing a skirmish level game.

I have Vikings and Saxons from both lines. I like both sets.

However, the FiB figures in those ranges are considerably larger and thicker than Splintered Light and I will not be using them on the same bases or in the same battle groups. I plan to raise the S/I figures on a small card base to make them approximately the same height as those on FiB bases, but when in close contact they will still look very undersized compared to their FiB brothers-in-arms.

I can't speak for Splintered Light but I have taken a very close look at Forged in Battle miniatures (in my hand) and I really do like what I have seen.

Please bear in mid that 15 mil is not my normal scale but I do know a well sculpted miniature when I see one.

Forged in Battle are very good for this period

Thanks all. I agree that Forged in Battle are lovely minis. I bought some of their Lombards to use as Rohirrim in LoTR and Scots/Irish to use as Dunlendings. The bulk of my Arthurians and Saxons will definitely be FiB.

Thanks Fred Mills. I have to admit that I assumed the Splintered Light would be the bigger ones. I’ve ordered a few to see how they compare. I mostly only wanted some of the personalities and command figs to add a bit more colour. Thanks again.

The FiB Early Saxons go well with the Wiglaf range from Northstar, if you're looking for other options.

Ok, my first attempt at posting a photo here. The larger figures are Forged in Battle Vikings; the smaller Splintered Light. The S/I figures are often quitte animated in pose, and look a wee bit dwarf-like in stature, but I like them. FiB are straighter and taller standing. Some variation in height is great, but across the Saxons and Vikings that I have from both, the FiB figures are not only taller but very beefy compared to S/I. A few types - e.g., archers - are closer in height but not in size, while some - bondi spearmen, e.g. - are more noticeably dissimilar.

But I like them both, and will just compensate with a thicker base for the S/I chaps, and mount them on their own bases.
