Horus Heresy
« on: November 01, 2024, 05:15:46 AM »
My spouse wanted me to paint her a Salamanders army “but in yellow, not green” (there was a Rogue Trader era scheme to match).

This is the first piece, a Forgeworld land speeder! Mix of airbrush, contrast paints, hand painting.

That looks really good  8)

The model is a great modern re-imagining of the classic lawnchairs-with-rocketboosters landspeeder, and the paintjob makes it shine.

I'm familiar with most RT era paintschemes, but this yellow Sallies one eludes me. Can you please share the source?

I think the picture of a Salamander in yellow with black tiger-ish stripes was in white dwarf or maybe chapter approved, but they also referenced it in the big black Horus Heresy books.

And back to topic, yup very nice paintjob.

quick search showed up this http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/1335738767/gallery_36285_7182_327352.jpeg

Oh, I like that, really nice weathering on the Speeder. 8)

I remember that pic from Chapter Approved, I'm guessing the illustrator went with salamander = newt rather than dragon...

Thanks all - yes, Rogue Trader era book Chapter Approved. It’s technically a Badab War scheme, and should have the black lines over it, but I’ve never seen one pulled off well. So simple yellow it was.

The scheme is featured in White Dwarf 101 (iirc) and the RT era Warhammer 40k Compendium. It is indeed a Badab War scheme, but I don't see why it can't have been around in the HH times too.

Nice job, you must love your spouse a lot to accept the task of painting a yellow army.

That’s it! I sold all my RT era books forever ago, but I remembered the scheme. Cheers!

I don’t mind yellow - airbrushing makes it much easier!

Rhino with FW doors. A fast job, mostly airbrushed.

You should hit it with a raw umber oil wash, it'll bring out all the panel lines a treat on that yellow.

Agreed - it’s ALMOST there, right? Good suggestion!

Thanks, Scotty above. 👍
