28mm Two-Handed Swords
« on: November 03, 2024, 12:39:45 PM »
I'm looking for someone who does a two-handed sword for 28mm models.
The plan is to make a unit of Swabian swordsmen.
I'm looking for an 11th/12th century style sword (happy to be flexible - at this size I'm sure a 13th or 14th century one will do!) - definitely not a landsknecht style sword!
I'd prefer metal. But certainly NOT resin or 3D printed - too brittle.
Anyone know who does these?
Cheers.

Are you asking for swords on their own, or for miniatures wielding said swords?

Those TAG ones look spot on!
Lovely, cheers.

Since I have several unmade plastic Norman infantry I was going to use those since they are easier to cut up and reposition. Then just add the swords.
But if anyone does know someone who does Norman types with two-handed swords then I'd appreciate a link.

Ignore what it says in the link, Vinni does a pack of Normans with two handers.

Some of his nicer sculpts as nobody is inexplicably naked.

What evidence is there for such swords being used in the 11th century? I see some quotes about two-handed swords at the battle of Civitate but another one suggests these are just longer than normal swords.

There's probably little or no evidence for it.
Which is pretty much the same for a lot of historical 'truths' we hold as self-evident.
So I don't give a damn. They're my toy soldiers and I'll play with them anyway I please.
The rule of cool will always over-ride everything else.

For my Normans in Italy project I also wanted a unit of Swabians. I read somewhere that they used "hand and a half swords" sometimes one handed with a shield and sometimes with two hands, so I wanted something that didn't look too crazy one handed.  For the base figure I used some Gripping Beast Anglo Danes as I liked the different look to my Victrix Normans. After rummaging through my bits box I came across GW Empire City troops sword arms. The swords were larger than the normal swords on the Normans as GW tends to run a bit larger. I just sliced off the hand and sword, cut off the metal hand, and glued the sword hand on. I'll post some pictures of them when I get back home on Tuesday. Hope this helps.

Finally got some pictures taken. The arms are GW, I would drill out the hands or just cut the metal hand off and replace it.
