Hello together
« on: November 07, 2024, 09:14:16 PM »
Hi all,

long time lurker since roughly a year, found this forum while searching for something I don't remember anymore. I have now decided to create an account to also interact a little bit more. Also to comment on some topics which I enjoyed throughout the days, like the lovely Tilean campaign by Padrissimus or more recently the videos by Frugalmax. The final kick for the registration was the recently new post by Mammoth miniatures about his approach for another approach to Tolkiens World of Middle-Earth because I also started jumping into that.

More to my background:
I started as a young teenager with the magazine series Battle Games in Middle-earth which was also the only game I played. I knew about the Warhammer Worlds but that was pretty much it, haven't played it and was also appearantly not aware of any other manufacturer or game, not being a lot at the internet. I played it with my brothers and friends and have some nice memories of it. When becoming an adult I gifted my stuff away to my younger brothers (although no one seems to recall where all those magazines went). Last year, after more than 12 years, my brother asked if I don't want to restart into the hobby again, he and another brother also started their ventures into it again. So here I am.

While my brothers mix their GW figures with 3D-printed ones, I wanted to stay with Plastics and discovered the world of kitbashing sets from Victrix, Northstar and Wargames Atlantics. I am a bit worried about the painting but well, has to be done at some point too.

For the setting, we decided to stay at the world of Middle-earth, we are all big fans of it. I might venture a bit into the Dark Age setting since I am also trying to base my LotR-figures on that era for a more book-like look. For the rule set we decided to go away from GW since we did not want to bother to buy all those books (also there is some new edition coming out soon it seems, making them useless again). Instead I translated the ruleset of Ravenfeast into German for them and expanded the ruleset, to fit it a bit more to our needs (naming the ruleset Ravenfeast Westlands for distinguishing them), so a few more optional rules, weapon and skill options as well as an adapted point system for creating armies. We already played a couple of games with it and I must say I never realised how much I have missed that hobby in the last years.

That's it for now. Hope to see you around :)

Welcome to LAF and good luck with your new gaming project.  If painting is worrying you start with some speed paints or the DIP technique.  Doesn't have to be perfect as long as your happy with it.
