The re-basing of my figures for Midgard Heroic Battles is moving along apace. I still have some elvish units that need to be done but I go bored with doing the same bases and I diverted myself but starting on my orc/goblin army. These bases are more difficult to do but I decided to do looser formations and thus used less figures per base. As a result I should end up with several extra units by the time I'm finished. As should be expected, these folk are much darker and grim compared to the elves above.

Here's what I've done so far. I still have a fair way to go to knock all of these little evil-doers into a working army. As usual, if you're interested there are more photo's and a write up on my blog at the link below.

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

I love what you’ve done with those units, the basing looks great (as does the painting on the figures)! I like the trolls mixed in, it gives the impression that they add punch to each unit.

Actually, the effect is kind of like when elephants in an ancient army have light infantry around each beast- the lightweights are there, but mostly to keep opponents from hamstringing the big guys who provide the main crunch!

Very cool! I really love your multi-basing its really effective

It’s great when you multi-base figures and use less per base, then get more units for your army!

Those look fantastic, inspiring!

The bases really tie them together.

Thank you for all the kind responses. It's taking a long time to get all of these figures rebased. There are another four or five to go and I still haven't even finished this first pair, so I still have a lot of work ahead of me.

That's my thinking. There's also that scene in Lord of The Rings when the goblins in Moria bring the troll with them. The troll's big and makes them feel tough so they crowd around him.

I bookmarked (and commented on) your blog, too. I loved going through the pictures on there. You are going to have such an amazing table full of figs when you do play a Midgard game...  :-*

It took me a long time to get my goblins re-based. Christmas restricted my time and the method of doing the bases was quite time consuming. But now it is about 98% done with only a few little details left to do. I'm really happy with the results and although I said the project is almost completed the army itself will continue to grow in it's own good time. One can never have enough goblin & orcish regiments.

There are more photo's on  my blog if you're interested. Just click in this link: https://this28mmlife.blogspot.com/2024/12/the-goblin-host-of-king-gorgol-mighty.html

Those orcs and goblins look great (as did the elves earlier).

Lovely! I'll paint a handful of models and be happy, I never finish a proper army like this

I know the feeling,  always impressed with those who can build and paint whole armies.

... One can never have enough goblin & orcish regiments...

A sentiment with which I heartily concur!

Absolutely stunning work. The Orc army looks amazing, and the Elves don't look too shabby either! It overall has a very First Age feel to it. A few Balrogs, a few dragons, and the Fall of Gondolin surely is just around the corner?
