Canada Post strike is being “paused”. UPDATE: 16 Dec 2024
« on: November 26, 2024, 06:15:40 PM »
ANOTHER UPDATE:

Canada Post operations resume tomorrow, 17 December.
From their website:

International mail and parcels

Canada Post will work to process a significant accumulation of international mail and parcels currently queued up to enter the postal system.
Customers should expect delays into 2025.
The postal system will start accepting new international mail on Monday, December 23

- obviously, I won’t be able to post out until after Christmas now, realistically. Sorry all, but they are coming!

13 December update:
Labour minister asks Canada Industrial Relations Board to step into Canada Post contract dispute
- from CBC News
Key points: mail will begin flowing next week again. Workers will be back to work under the previous expired contract conditions, while an industrial relations committee works to find resolution, targeted for May 2025. The entire structure of Canada Post will be looked at.

And so ends the second longest labour disruption in Canada Post history.

To all who have parcels expected from me (four people), I will be sending them as soon as they start accepting parcels again, likely by end of next week. I have sent PMs to all four of you! Thank you for your patience.

Apologies to all for something very much out of my control, and that went far longer than anyone expected.

ORIGINAL BIT:
I’m posting this to keep anyone who’s waiting on stuff from Canada, hang tight. Canada Post has been on strike since 15 November, and they aren’t taking parcels or mail. Last three disruptions lasted 13, 14, and 31 days - with two of those being rotating, so stuff was moving a little.

I’ll update this if it doesn’t get locked for being out of place. Sorry if that’s the case.

The timing is terrible! A world starved of Celine Dion concert Blue Ray Disks and Tim Horton's merchandise, delivered via their letterbox, must wait a little longer. The legion of Michael Buble haters receive a welcome, albeit temporary, reprieve.

Thank God Maria Carey is American and Christmas won't be totally ruined. Folk can go on safe in the knowledge that they will not be denied her essential Christmas tunes  :D

I stand in solidarity with the Canadian Postal Workers. The workers united shall never be divided!

Indeed! I stand with them, as well. No maple syrup for a while…

The rest of the world should still be able to get a steady stream of Tim H0rt0n’s merch and Ceiline Dionne Blu-ray’s through Temu, never fear, the market will provide.

Plenty of sources of Celine Dion product.  I'm annoyed that my Pulp Figures order is on hold!

But, yeah, if it weren't for that, solidarity forever.

Fear not - because of international capitalism, even here in Southern England I am only 40 minutes drive from the nearest Tim Hortons.

A chain that sells what passes for coffee in Canada. Or rather it's likely someone did actually pass what their customers consume. Even dire renal problems can have a silver lining. A sort of flannel shirt answer to the equally dire Starbucks.

On the plus side, it means I can look at whatever minis I want knowing that I can't order them because if the strike. Quite liberating really

Here I thought TH was a broader supplier of diverse goods. Are they as annoying trying to have one, if not two, at every intersection.

Just did an eBay transaction for a holiday surprise for my daughter.

In her forties, she can join in the solidarity as well...  ;)

Well news. It will still be a week before postal workers are back at work and who knows how long it will take to get through the backlog. I would be surprised if people get anything before Xmas.
