As subscribers to Spectre Miniatures’ emails will know, they are in the process of introducing a supernatural dimension to Spectre Operations, the initial release being Mythos, set in the 1930’s and pertaining to the works of HP Lovecraft.

This is not a stand-alone release as the core Spectre Operations rules are required. I’m not familiar with those rules, though I do own a copy of the previous edition, v2, which I understand to be unrelated except in subject matter, i.e. ‘ultra-modern’ combat. This does not seem on initial consideration an ideal fit for the 1930’s, though I’m sure the game’s designers know what they’re doing. It also appears that other eras will be added at a later date, possibly both before and after the 1930’s setting, as, of course, has been the case with the Call of Cthulhu rpg.

I’d be interested in the opinions of any with experience of Spectre Operations as to how well the rules may transfer to periods outside the present day and recent history.

Poor chap. As if he didn’t already have enough problems, now he’s got the FBI on his back, as well as only eternal damnation to look forward to. I can only wonder what the cultists offered in exchange?

Anyway, I now have the core Spectre Operations rule book and am thinking about getting at least some of the Mythos items, including the rule book  which adds rules for insanity, monsters and supernatural environments. I assume this is the ‘pamphlet’ included in the starter box but am awaiting confirmation of this.

I have not played the new edition of the rules but I’m active on their discord. There are some unanswered questions about stress and some other rules that have not been answered. Discord gets some interaction by the developers, their customer service is great.

For this release I plan to try the rules for the first time and I love the miniatures. I think the weird looking ones are deep one hybrids.

Thank you. Beyond the expansion into the supernatural, I see they’re also about to release - or have just released - a supplement with rules for vehicles, including helicopters, and sets of cards with weapons data. A deep dive appears in order.

I've been on the fence about checking Spectre out for a while, primarily down to the high cost for the PDF's, but this new Mythos expansion may pull me in. I've bought some of their modern military minis in the past, which were lovely, so now the idea of playing some Delta Green style games with them may just be enough to tempt me. $135AUD for the core and two expansions seems a bit steep when I'll have to do the printing myself as well though.

That’s exactly what prompted me to take the plunge. As regards the pricing, it does seem strange that the PDFs alone cost as much as the print copies, which come with the PDFs at no additional charge. Your location doubtless makes purchasing these impracticable. That, I suppose is the price you pay for endless sunshine (as if skin cancer weren’t enough.)

That's interesting, I checked PDFs first and just presumed physical would be reasonably more. This makes buying the physical much more tempting, especially as Northstar carry it and are always very reasonable on postage. Maybe my 28mm Delta Green will happen in the new year after all - definitely keen to hear if anybody's given it a whirl

Perhaps that was the intention behind the pricing - to encourage people to buy the physical copies.
