Strength and Honour, Conquest - Alexander and Hannibal
« on: December 06, 2024, 10:56:27 AM »
Hi all,
The first Strength and Honour supplement; Conquest - Alexander and Hannibal is out this week. It covers the period from 350BC and the rise of Macedon under Phillip to 105BC, and therefore is a prequel to the main rulebook. This period covers the campaigns of Alexander the Great, the Successor states, Pyrrhus, Hannibal and the Punic Wars, and the Roman conquest of Greece and Macedon.

It’s got 73 pages of content with new additional rules and characteristics to cover the Polybian era legions, different types of elephants and professional phalanxes. 10 new army lists with lots of variations to actually cover over 20 new armies. To top it all 20 new scenarios including some epic clashes like Gaugemela, Raphia, Cannae, Zama and Magnesia, as well as some less well known ones and a few smaller battles to get you started!

Hopefully you have seen it at shows? We recently won best best participation game at The Other Partizan 2024, and best 6mm or under game at Salute 2023.

It’s available from TooFatLardies in the UK or rest of the World: https://toofatlardies.co.uk/product/conquest-alexander-hannibal/?fbclid=IwY2xjawG6sh1leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHRX0ygDpp8vdnZRlakcsR6nX3d1x19da6L6Y8zSmswVeSFqi91BELTUoaw_aem_D60SLOeuhx92WsPbyZOfrQ

Or Karawansaray if in the EU:

We will also be putting on Conquest, Alexander and Hannibal participation games at Winter Wonder Lard in February in Bristol 2025, and at Salute 2025, so come and say hello and join in!

Cheers
Mark

Thought I should post up a few pictures of our award winning game at The other Partizan. We ran Cynocephelae twice over the day, and surprisingly had two Macedonian victories. Amusing as in the playtesting the Romans kept winning!

This sounds great, it’s one of my favorite periods for wargaming- lots of interesting troop types and the Romans aren’t quite the irresistible powerhouse they became later.

Mark, having bought the original but never really played it I will almost certainly succumb to a "Macedonian and Punic Wars" supplement ( to borrow the old EGR nomenclature). Do you know if the PdF of 2D units sold on the 2FL website covers all the units you need for this as well?

Thanks,

No, the PDF doesn’t quite cover every unit needed as the earlier manipular legions are not on it. Fear not as Rich Clarke has commissioned the same artist to do a few more to fill the gaps. Joe Bilton is making a few more units and they will be available for free on the TFL site to download once they are ready.
In the meantime you should have all the troops you need for the Macedonian conquests, and successors battles with what’s on the older pdf.

Of course you could use whatever models you want to play them. It’s scale agnostic, and while I tend to pitch it’s unique selling point as being designed for smaller scales (2-10mm) lots of people use their DBM based figures or even 28mm to play.

Mark, is this only ever going to be a PDF or is there any chance of hard copy?

I’m afraid to say it’s only available on PDF. However, I went to Doxdirect and printed a few copies for personal use at shows and to give to friends who had helped with playtesting. They came out nice.

Mark, thanks for the prompt answer. I must admit I love the 2/3mm size figures, and several of my mates have invested in them. However I liked the 2D downloads and planned to mount them on Warbases Mdf bases for a bit more "heft". i just never got round to doing it. Maybe this release will be the inspiration. I do like the Warbases buildings and might buy some of them.

Yet another new project for 2025 to go alongside Midgard and armies for Simon Miller's evolving late 17th century rules.

Regards.

Let’s see. Biblical is more likely to be a magazine article rather than a supplement. Late Roman is a possible, as is late Dark Age/Early Medieval. I think more scenarios for the core time period and some campaign rules with a naval variant is the thing I’m most keen on getting out. Whether that’ll be as magazine articles or further supplements is a bit hard to say and will depend a bit on the success of this supplement.

It’s taken two and a as half years to research, write and complete this supplement so something a bit shorter would be welcomed! For the moment I’m excited to see lots of Hellenistic and earlier Republican battles on the tabletop!

Sounds like a plan! Thanks.

I've been twiddling about with a Sengoku Jidai samurai version of S&H, though I keep getting distracted by other things so progress has been glacial! Most units are mixed sonae with ashigaru melee and missile troops, samurai foot and mounted all on the same base. All cavalry and all Teppo units are also included. I have no 3mm monks, ninja or ronin so I'm ignoring them for the moment. Some 3mm Vietnamese NVA minis are doing service as peasants!

I'd far rather see a version done by the master!!

Samurai isn’t really on my radar I have to admit. Unfortunately, while I’ve an interest in it, it’s not really something I know a great deal about apart from reading a few Stephen Turnbull books! I’m afraid some areas are best left to people with greater expertise than me! I’m not really sure if there is a wide enough audience for them but am wondering if the new 10mm Wargames Atlantic range might spur on further interest?
