Trappers go raiding
« on: December 12, 2024, 08:26:05 PM »
A short and sharp French Indian Wars game with most of The Regulars.
Two bands of trappers decide to go raiding a small Indian encampment. One band of Indians was placed at the camp and the other was returning from a hunting trip - randomly placed on the table once the trappers were deployed.
The trappers started at a ford of the tributary stream leading down to the camp on the great river. They had the option to randomly appear somewhere else on the table - worked well for one group, not so well for the other.

The trapper group to the north of the camp quickly came into sight of three of the stay at home Indians and immediately charged in using their fully loaded muskets as clubs  ???
The initial melee didn't go well and the Indian war leader showed far more sense than the white man by stepping back out of the melee, priming his musket, and shooting one of the trappers down  lol
Ultimately however 5 trappers v 3 Indians could only go one way and we leave these brave souls to do some looting.

Down at the other lodge the sound of musket fire roused the other half of the stay at home guys just as the hunting party returned and spotted trappers emerging from the tree line after a very long journey - should have stayed at the ford  lol
Muskets fired, arrows whizzed through the air, both the hunting party and the trappers lost their leader (the trapper leader was known as Pierre Smithee, no idea why  ;) )
The hunting party and the trappers ran on testing morale, the trappers never came back, the hunting party eventually rallied.

The 3 remaining stay at home Indians left the wild fight behind them and headed for the northern fight. Spotting one of the cursed trappers about to remove someone's hair, an arrow flew and the trapper collapsed gasping "Indians!"
These trappers decided enough was enough and disappeared into the trees. The Indians had defended their homes but not without loss.

The game was short and sharp and probably what we all wanted on the day. The rules were home grown and a lively good humour was maintained throughout.
Merry Christmas!

More pictures from yesterday’s game.
Enjoyable and quick.

“Where’s it say that in the rules ?”  lol

Well done!!! A very attractive and modeled tabletop and some good research on the longhouse designs.

Wonderful AAR and nice, clear pictures.
Great figures and terrain.
Did you scratchbuild those Indian longhouses?
Who makes the pig roasting on the spit?!
Thanks for posting

Yes the longhouses were scratch built. No idea where the roasting pig came from.

Very nice layout. It sounds a lively skirmish.
I also have a roasting pig. I think it was nolzur's marvelous miniatures DND camp set
