Future Football
« on: December 03, 2009, 05:04:28 PM »
Hey guys other than art and wargaming a big thing for me is sport
so i was thinking of using Deadbowl by Heresy Miniatures (a freeby if anyone wants it) or Bloodbowl by games workshop to create a game of american football but have the settings in say post apocolyptic.

Obviously im going to make it rediculously violent should be entertainting

What do you guys think?

Steve

might work, what are we talking about here? Mutuants, Robots and Savages?
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

So young and already suffering from multiple project syndrome!

Sounds like a fun idea. I'd recommend you look at Impact miniatures:

I don't think it would require any big rules changes (since there are hardly weapons in either game) and I think it would look awesome! So I'd say go with it!
Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins

Sounds like a great idea...there must be companies that produce unarmed post apocolyptic type humans. Well okay ones only armed with weapons they can sneak onto the pitch in their clothes...brass knucks, the odd knife, batton, stick, broken bottle.

Basicly fielding melee orientated necromunda gangs...and a ball I guess.

I've only played bloodbowl myself so I can't really help with any other rules sets.

Making it more brutal sound good though...perhaps kind of a pit fighting scenario...so hurt people don't get subbed, they just stay down, and maybe recover enough to play again. Lets a player choose between seriously kicking into a downed player/fighter, or go for someone else or the ball.

Might just be me, but I'd say the fighting and injury rules should be a lot more important and indepth than the actual ball handling/scoring ones.

Definitely check out Impact. My favourite ff company to deal with, great guys with great product. I'm sure they'll have something that meets your tastes. If you're looking for futuristic though, check out Neomics. They have that post apocalytic, Mad Max, look to them.

Woah...

I'm not a huge fan of impacts miniatures, they are a bit cartoony in some places, and just not to my taste in others.
Most of the Nemoics stuff on the other hand is amazing, one or two of the models, like the ogre, and possibly the dark elves (though there are only small pictures of those) aren't quite to my liking...but the majority of the humans, orcs and goblins are great.

Back with an update
Ive cracked the rules

Games Workshops out of print Brewhouse Bash
In its rules there are rules for throwing a table/chair you have to roll a d6 and thats how many squares you can throw it

So instead of a table/chair its a ball
Simples ;)

Other rule developments are on the way

Have you heard of the boardgame "Battleball"?  http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/6795  Probably a lot simpler than you're looking for, and a lot higher on the tech level, but it does come with two full peams of unique players that you could use to flesh out existing teams.  The figures are by Bob Naismith, and the paint jobs can easily be improved with a little detailing, but if you can find it cheaply, it might save you some time with the startup.
