2nd Seminole War 2024 Holiday game
« on: January 07, 2025, 09:43:53 PM »
This year's Apparently Annual Holiday Sharp Practice game was a return to the central Florida territory of the Second Seminole War, circa late December 1838. A small supply train had been attacked and captured by the natives who scattered the wagons and livestock among savanna and hammocks with the intent of coming back the next day to pilfer more goods. This caused the local US army post also sent out troops to round up what stock they could recover. Local militia also saw an opportunity to acquire some government goods and headed out.  The other 2 players had a Seminole and a Black Seminole units
To create a festive mood I handed out oranges for causing casualties and we had a trivia question after each turn. These were based on early Florida history and of course we had to have some 'Floriduh man' puzzlers. The last question is always around the greatest Holiday song- the Pogues' Fairytale of New York.

Very nice!

I've had the opportunity to walk some of those battlefields and sites.  Back then, it was in the middle of absolutely nowhere...miserable, it must have been...

And I second Fairytale of New York...

Hey Mark, it's Bart.   Was great chatting with you this weekend.

Great stuff!  Working hard on my terrain boards now.

In 15mm, focusing on the Miccou river (now the Sebastian River by my home) and Stick Marsh, and Fort Pierce is down the road.

This is really cool! I am putting together a 28mm using the new Phalanx Games & Sundry minis. Can you share what type of special rules you used for any of the units if any?

I did write an article for a TFL special on the 2SW for Sharp Practice v1 some years ago.  Mostly I treat all targets as in hard cover.  Casualties from firefights were so low in most engagements Seminoles are also able to disappear back onto blinds (used in SP v1).  And the Seminoles avoided any close combat so can retreat away.  And many units can be considered poor shots.
Cheers,
Mark

Thanks Mark
Great looking game and nice AAR, as usual.

Am on the hook to run two 28mm 2SW games in February for the group.
U.S. Revenue Cutter Service Marines vs Seminoles.
No particular historical event.

Mark, not a public event, just in house for our local group.
Refresh my recollection, which 15mm figures are you using in your games?

Bart, really like that small stockade and the two Chickee houses.

Started with the Freikorps line then started making conversions and head swaps with Blue Moon minis.

Looks fabulous! Thumbs up on the Pogues song.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss
