I'm looking to run a game set in Renaissance or Baroque Venice, complete with Masquerade ball at Carnival, assassins, courtiers, courtesans,  maybe a Doge, nobility, guards, etc... I know that there are a few figs out there, but I haven't done much in the way of swashbuckling stuff in recent years, so the ranges are relatively new to me. Troops, I know, are available, but I'm looking for other colorful types to populate the type of setting I've described.

This is something I've wanted to do for a while, but playing the second Assassin's Creed game has moved it slightly up the priority ladder.

I presume 28mm.
I had same idea. It is hard to find, since they are very scarce.
Maybe a small trip to Venice will bring some additional toys. They use to sell small figurines made of coloured Murano glass.
Some of the them are in the right scale or very close to it. Lovely figures but expensive.

Few figures are available, try some from pirates ranges of various manufacturers like laughing monk (dangerous ladies - via fighting 15's) or tradition of london (Willie ranges-some dancing ladies) also concider some of the Eureka civilians.

More ideas might come from 18th century blogs like:

GW's dog of war "Vespero's Vendetta" figures? Might work as masked Venetian assassins/swashbucklers.

Brigade has some nice figures in his Swashbuckling range.  The emphasis is more French than Italian, but there might be a few useful figures here:

In particular, this lady and cardinal:

I'm in a RPG using much the same theme right now.

I'll second Brigades, also check out Freebooter Miniature's assassines and imperials for a few.

Try Reaper for courtisans.  S. Garity sculpted a lot of women in elaborate dress for Reaper.  Some of the figures may need to be modified slightly because of fantasy elements.  The Reaper townfolk packs may have some useful figures.

Old Glory has a fat governor and creapy assistants pack in its pirate line that might be useful for you.

Blue Moon has some interesting civilians available, along with swashbucklers.

West Wind has various Sleepy Hollow and other civilian packs that might provide usedful figures.
Sailors have more fun!

More Renaissance than baroque, but you need to look at Mirliton, especially the Florentine Soccer Pageant:

Maybe some of the Foundry Swashbucklers as well, many of those can be modified by weapon removal etc and they are in hose and double slashed breeches in most cases.

There a some Reaper women who would fit the bill for women of good & ill repute. Perhaps Outpost for some later period Highway "persons".
Cheers,
