Seaforth Highland Regiment Question

Hi

I've got some Great War highlanders to paint, which i will be doing as Seaforth Highlanders.

The Question is does any one know wether the bag on the bagpies would have been tartan or a plain colour and what colour are the ribons are on the top of the pipes, i've seen modern pictures & they are both Tartan.

I would imagine tartan, I'll have a look at some of my books tonight.  I've got a couple of books that show pipers from just before the great war, the new Osprey 'Vanished Armies' Book and the British Army List 1914 both have good colour drawings of some of the scottish regiments.  The cords and cover are removable (my pipes dont have a cover on them at all at the moment so it just a plain Sheepskin bag  ) So they may well have changed in the war to anything that was to hand.

I agree with Andekmcc - Mackenzie tartan bag cover is most likely for Great War, same for the ribbons.

In WW2 the bags look like MacKenzie tartan with green cords - though I've also seen them with tartan ribbon.



So I'd guess the same in WW1.
