What I painted in April 2025
« on: April 06, 2025, 08:43:24 PM »

I'll get the ball rolling in this rainy April (at least around here). These actually took very little painting. They are 3-D printed pieces from a regional company called A Critical Hit. Apparently, the filament material they use in the process has three different colors banded together (in a spiral, maybe?). So, when you turn the piece, it changes colors.

I added the black panels with glowing buttons on the rocket-like pieces, along with a metallic gray on the fins and rocket engine parts. For the large, alien vegetation encrusted piece, I painted the tendrils, dry brushed them, and then add tiny railroad terrain "oranges" to appear like an alien growth.

For more information and photos, check out my Lead Legionaries post:

Five more Splintered Light Miniatures animals. These are wildcats in some pretty cool Graeco-Roman armor. So, I'm calling them the Wildcat Legion since I painted them up in common uniforms. I love the look of Late Republican Roman legionaries, with the red, bronze, and silver.

Here's a closeup of one of them. I'm happy with how they came out. They are part of SLM's Hedgerow Heroes, listed as 28mm. Different animals are different sizes. The wildcats are about 19mm from bottoms of the paws to the eyes.

Check out more photos and description on how I painted them on my Lead Legionaries blog:

Pretty neat stuff here.  Quite impressed with the Roman animals.

Building and painting a dungeon (here: https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=148719.msg1910983;topicseen#new) took most of my hobby time in March and the first week of April.

Over the past week I shifted gears and painted some scatter for my planned zombie games. They are pieces from a Terrain Crate by Mantic Games. I also assembled and painted a set of fences by Renedra. I like how they turned out.

So, I am really curious about what you think of this MDF building I just finished painting up. It's a monster...the base is 8" diameter, and it is 11" at its widest point. I despaired of being able to put its jigsaw pieces of a pack together, and John from Dad's Armies (who sold it to me) actually put it together for me for free. Now, THAT'S customer service...  lol

When I bought it, I wasn't really thinking about scale. In the end, I think that -- as big as it is -- it is too small for my 28mm stuff.  I think it would be great for 15mm or even Battletecch, but for 28mm would just be eye candy.

Actually considering on selling it...read more on my Lead Legionaries blog:

Though I’ve been holed up in the remote wilds of Devon this past week, the call of the brush could not be silenced. Amid the mist and moor, I turned my attention to these Game of Thrones-inspired figures - spoils from the Elladan closing down sale. Now reborn in paint, they stand as grim-faced bandits and ruthless outlaws, ready to stalk the edges of any tabletop realm.

I think Elladan finally shut up shop at midnight on 31/12 last year. The website no longer exists and I don't know if they sold their ranges to anyone else.

More plastic fun.  The sprues for Guards of Traitor’s Toll (which are also for sale direct from Wargames Atlantic as Guards and Villagers) are great fun.  The drunken dwarf is a special though.
