How are these types of pens different form Micron pens? I like those and have been using them for fine details (stripes, writing, etc.) for a year or so...

Are the micron pens you are using ink Mike?  The Posca, AK, etc. are acrylic paint - https://www.posca.com/en/product/pc-1mr/

Slightly related (and tying in with the brush marker discussions elsewhere on the forum), has anyone tried the AK brush markers? https://ak-interactive.com/product/special-box-rc-markers-34-units/
My daughter has a set of acrylic brush markers that I’ve tested for miniatures but I was not crazy about the colours so the AK military inspired ‘real colours’  might be more up my street. They also have a set of brighter colours aimed at tabletop miniatures that have a more varied set of metals.

As I mentioned before, I have about 20 - the real military style colours work great, not for fine work, but for bigger surfaces. Think a Tiger tank. Perfect for them.

I must have misread— I thought you were saying you had a bunch of the pen tip ones.
A quick google shows that the acrylic real color markers don’t match their ‘real colors’ lacquer, but I wonder if they match with the 3rd gen acrylic paints. It would be nice to lay down base coats and maybe first highlight with the markers, then do a shade and final highlights(s) with a brush. I’ll order one of the 3-packs from my FLGS and see how it goes. If nothing else they should be great for terrain.

It’s 0800 on a Saturday here in Canada - give me 15 mins to get some photos of what I have so we’re talking about the same thing! The pens are new to me. 👍

I don't believe anyone has yet mentioned the brand new Playmarker range by AK:

https://ak-interactive.com/product/special-box-playmarkers-34-units/?utm_campaign=Haven%E2%80%99t+tried+the+AK+PLAYMARKERS+yet%3F_EN&utm_source=Connectif&utm_medium=email&__cn_tracker=617aac26180e47bf53880ec3

In addition to the full set of 34, they're available in themed sets of three and six, including metallics.

AK seems to be bundling their products lately, different take I guess.

I ordered a pastels paint set for interest.

Just a heads up, it's advised to store these horizontally. If you are going to store them upright, store them with the nib down so the paint doesn't settle and the nib dries out.

I've got a few of the AK paint pens, they are interesting, but I have noticed that they aren't entirely waterproof after they have dried.

I use the AK Playmarkers and other generic acrylic brush pens (even in Tesco now so easily available) for terrain.  Very quick to do, no getting the paints out of the pot and cleaning brushes.  Nice.

Normally I drag at terrain painting.  This and basing are for me the least enjoyable parts of my hobby the the markers have certainly begun to eat into the pile of 3D printed scatter at a much accelerated rate - I don't even bother to prime just apply straight to the print.
No dear, they are not toys, they are models

I've been playing around with cheap markers quite a bit recently; the WIP troll below was largely done with markers except for the eyes, teeth and one layer of slight highlights on the skin. He needs a lot more work, but he was very quick to get to this stage.

Also, most of this WIP manticore was done with markers (not the mane or the eyes). He still needs a lot of work, but he's getting there:
