Make Ancient India Great Again.  Porus. Ghandara. Takshashila. Punjab !

I recently got inspired to work on my ancient Indians again.  I've done a small number over the years but feels it's high time to give Porus and his Punjabi marauders a greater chance in the battle w the western invaders.   Step 1  -  pull out all the unfinished models and assemble and base ready for some blocking in of colours..

Models a mixture here of  V and V, Newline Design, Vendel and some kitbashed guys.

Step 2 :  review the start of the force...

Longbow archers.  A key part of the ancient Indian Army. Said to have some of the greatest range of any ancient archers

V and V miniatures mostly

Flanking elephants by Aventine.
Central one by Vendel.

Step 3:      amass a greater army !       I've ordered more from V and V and Blitzkrieg and am considering others.....

Not massive.   Perhaps another elephant , a few chariots and some small units of  infantry ( ~  50 men ).      Spearmen - armoured and unarmoured,  Longbow and Forest archers,   2 handed swordsmen,  ........

Nice army. I've considered buying "classical Indian" as an opponent for my mate's Alexandrian Macedonians, but as I already have 4 unpainted 28mm ancient armies in my stash have thought better of it. Looking at the Blitzkrieg website I see they also do what they call "medieval Indian", albeit I'm guessing that the fact they include matchlockmen probably dates them to the 16th century.

Funny you should mention them SJ, my Thematic Byzantines (don't ask) scored a resounding win over the Blitzkrieg Miniatures Medieval Indian army (played by the designer) last weekend! a beautiful army designed and painted up by Mario Kkounnous. i can send you pics of Mario's painting (rather than jump in on the thread) if you want to see them SJ?

Atheling. Yes please. One of my 4 unpainted armies is an Aventine 6th century Byzantine army. A retirement present 3 years ago from ex-work colleagues.

Yeah I've got Blitzkrieg Indians on order - both Classical and Medieval ( the archers ) .   They look promising and if are up to other Blitzkrieg standards they'll be great
