Mantic Star Saga Painting Project (250518 ALL PAINTED)
« on: May 11, 2025, 03:17:28 PM »
I came into the hobby via decades of RPG's. I'm always looking for a story,  a tale to tell in my games.

Therefore, it's no surprise I enjoy dungeon crawler games. However, finally coming to the realisation that I haven't got unlimited time gaming (darn you grown up stuff  lol), I NEED games I can comfortably set up and play in a couple of hours, not whole day projects.

Star Saga came onto my radar via a member at my gaming club and it seems to fit my criteria. Decent minis to paint up so I made start today. I'll paint up the Core box and varnish it all in one go.

The important bits here are: it's a board game so no fancy stuff, just splash some colour on the mono coloured plastic and the "it looks OK from three feet away" rule.

First out: the Scientist minions. The game's "goblins"  lol.

Some doors. Just a chrome spray with a rattle can and a Nuln oil wash. Job done.

Weapon racks. Chrome spray, painted the weapons with Armypainter Speedpaint Grim Black and Nuln oil wash.

The most important thing in the hobby is that you're having FUN! Doesn't matter if you win or lose.

This is the game box and the artwork is pretty exciting (I think).

The vats... I'm pretty sure whatever they contain is highly illegal and dangerous...

Monarch. The final boss I believe.

Today's effort. And as with all the things I've painted so far, the plan is to keep painting it all up, hopefully getting it done this week and finally varnishing it all in one go.

Being a board game, I'm not too fussed about mould lines etc, main objective is to get some paint on the minis.

Combat Utility Robot "CURBY"- one of the heroes available in the Core box.

Experiments- look what happens when you tinker with genetics  ;).

Today, I managed to do the rest of the terrain. Nothing fancy, literally just putting some colour on grey plastic. Varnishing left to do.

Plodding on with this project. Goal is to have the whole core box painted up and done by Sunday. Today, I did the 10 Corporate Marines and Rangers. Very simple quick job, using Armypainter Speedpaints 2.0. Necromancer Cloak for most parts, with Grim Black for weapons,  Highlord Blue and Poppy Red in places.

It might be doable, with only the heroes and level bosses left to do. Fingers crossed.

Yesterday and today's painted miniatures.  With ONE day left of my self imposed deadline, i have THREE miniatures to paint up, before the Core box is completed! I'm confident I can find the time and energy tomorrow to do those  :D.

After varnishing, I will base that big Aberration miniature on a spare clear perspex base.

The Sphyr medic in the second picture is from the single character expansion Kira Nikolovski, Sphyr Medic.

Varnishing of it all will then be done,  probably Tuesday.

DONE!

I had a self imposed deadline to get it all painted up during this week. I started Monday and by today, I have only three miniatures left to varnish  :o.

Granted, it's all quick and easy painting but the importance was to get some paint on the mono coloured pieces.

Well done.
I got the box as a freebie from Mantic at Salute (2017?).
Not actually started them.

Thank you sir!  I had the game in the past, but didn't get around to playing it so it went on ebay. Fast forward some years and now I'm ready to give it a proper go  lol. I even have four gentlemen at my club who'll be playing!

Regards,

Legionnaire.
