7th Pz Div ORBAT France 1940?
« on: June 13, 2025, 07:20:48 PM »
I've recently dusted off my long-abandoned 1/200 France 1940 project planning to use Kampfgruppe Commander 3. This is at a higher level of organisation than I normally game at. Having lots of Pz38(T)s I have decided to base my force on Rommel's 7th Pz Division. However I find conflicting data about the theoretical ORBAT let alone the actual one in May 1940.

Can anyone help?

 Thanks

Pete, thanks for this. Do you ( or anyone else) have any detail on the vehicle make-up of the tank battalions.   I think the majority of Companies were Pz38(T)s but were there any PzII of PzIV?

Thanks

It's not impossible to find out. 7th Panzer had 225 tanks.
34 x Panzer I
68 x Panzer II
91 x Panzer 38(t)
24 x Panzer IV
8 x Panzerbefehlswagen 38(t) - Command variant.
Not entirely sure which companies had which type - from what I can make out, I and II battalions of the 25th Panzer Regt. had the bulk of the Pz 38(t) and Pz IV (medium companies), whilst the III battalion (PzAbt. 66) was still mostly equipped with Pz II's primarily as well as some Pz I's and a few Pz 38(t).

In 1940 they were still in the process of equipping their tank regiments with Pz 38(t), from the previous establishment of Pz I and II's - by July 1941 they had completed the process, having 265 tanks;
53 x Pz II, 167 x Pz 38(t), 30 x Pz IV and 15 x Char B.
