The Good The Bad And The Wierd

Just picked it up from HMV in the 4 for £20 lots - brilliant! Kind of Back of Beyond. Spaghetti Western influenced Korean adventure set in 1940's. Unmissable.

Just watched this last night - a Korean western, set in 1930s Manchuria, based on Italian Spaghetti westerns.  I loved it!  I put it on for background while painting and had to stop painting so I could pay full attention to the film.

I recommend to all our LAF brethren - it has Japanese army in Manchuria, Korean bandits (and Korean freedom fighters), bigger than life heroes, huge shootouts/brawls (everywhere - on trains, in the desert, in towns - you name it).  I hope it is not too much of a spoiler to say that the huge multi-faction chase/battle at the end looked like it was inspired by one of Ignatieff's Back of Beyond games.  Bdwyr needs to watch it just for the opening sequence on the train!

The trailer has been posted before, but it bears repeating:

Hopefully Santa is bringing me a copy. I put it on my list when I sent him a letter to let him know what I wanted ;D

Looks very promising. The very stuff! But I have to admit that a fellow with a hairdo which makes him look like vocalist in Asiavision Song Contest gets under my skin.

Well, he is "the bad".  He reminds me of the dancing Axe Gang chief from Kung Fu Hustle.

He's a pretty cool bad guy. I like the hair do... it's awesome at the start: "You're the best in all of Machuria" and Park Chan-Yi says "Just Machuria?"... awesome line.

I just watched it today for the third time. I have been thinking of how you could play this out on the table top... certainly some wild west figures could make it in, and some "ancients" types with the right kit. I'm not familiar with the actual BoB ranges other than Copplestone's...

But I very much agree, it's a terrific movie... it blends so many cultures, genres, and eras into one.

I love the bit with the diving helmet  lol

this is certainly the strangest Wild West - Chinese Revolution mix I've ever seen

a lot to build in order to wargaming this....

the "prototype" for the bad guy is clearly Alain Delon in his Western phase

the movie seems like "ordered"  for BoB

Yeah I just saw Copplestone's BoB range and there are a lot of similarities!

That marketplace would be great to play in... heaps of rickety ladders, different levels for snipers, and windows to jump out of!

Looks intriguing.  Amazon.uk has the 2-disc set on for £4.97.  Much better price than the $29.99US for the single disc! Too bad I don't have a PAL player!  :(
