Structured plastic sheet
« on: December 17, 2009, 01:42:47 PM »
I'm looking for plastic sheet with wood grain. I could use balsa but I don't like cutting it ;) Anybody seen something like that?

Cheers,
Tobi

go to a railway model store - there are at least 3 companies that make plastic sheets with all kind of structures, including wooden boards, logs, shingles and whatever, even hay thatched roof

Kibri, Faller, Auhagen

You can also check online or at ebay - they cost from 1,50 to 3 Euro for 15x20 cm

Effective wood grain can be added to styrene with a few passes of various grade heavy grit sandpaper.

not sandpaper. all you need is a strong metal brush!

much eavyer you pass on the plastic sheet, more old the wood will look at the end... it is the technique used by a lot of pro modellers! :P

actually, I'm planning to use this method for resin casting... if you want to make some normal scenery you can use balsa, but for casting this way is really better... and I think it is your plan, right?  ;)
