MaaX Goes a-Viking
« on: 26 September 2025, 05:29:09 PM »
A few months ago I picked up the Victrix Vikings kit and have been slowly plotting how to bring them to life.
It took me quite a while to decide on poses, weapons and combinations, but I’ve now built about 25 figures and managed to paint the first eight.

This first batch includes:

Jarl Harald Ulfsson – my proud leader with a shield decorated with wolf heads and the runes

Two Huscarls – depending on the game they might stay as Huscarls or simply serve as wealthier, better-equipped warriors

Two mail-clad warriors – experienced fighters ready to hold the shieldwall

Two Bondi/farmers – unarmoured men, representing the free farmers called up for war

For gaming, I’m planning to use this warband (everyone except the Huscarl with the Dane axe) as my first 250-point band for Pillage.

I’ll be adding new models slowly over time as more of the warband gets painted.
This is my first attempt at painting Vikings and this historical period, so any comments, feedback, or historical suggestions are especially welcome!

I really like the way you've done the fabric. Small ornamentations can really make a model stand out. Colour choice is excellent!

I cannot pretend to feel impartial about colours. I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns. - Winston Churchill
