Pulp Alley - Terrain
« on: December 20, 2009, 11:48:05 PM »
This first picture is of me in my England soccer shirt painting a layer of white on a building using a dabbling technique.

The second picture is the front of the building I was working on. It has had three layers: a layer of texture, a layer of wood glue for protection, and a layer of white paint for color. It looks cool but was really hard to paint due to the multiple arches.

The third picture is the back side of the building in the last picture. We have five buildings put together but all are a work in progress with up to 0-3 layers so far.

The fourth picture is one of the simplest buildings me and my dad have put together. It is a simple rectangle with one door and a sunken roof. I wish dad would make more easy ones like this.

The fifth picture has several stories and two doors. We do not recommend you move into any of these houses because the doors and windows are covered up with clear tape.

More to come…

If he did that how would he keep you occupied ;)

Those look great - I'd like to see a good photo of the building with the staircase and curved sections, it lurks in the background of several photos!

The texture looks perfect, what did you use as the texture layer?

Malamute and others have been doing some great buildings very similar to yours, check the Old West forum especially. (I'll post links later if nobody beats me to it, have to keep this short as I'm still at work...)

Some very nice buildings there, reminds me that I need to do some myself soon.... along with all the other projects....

One suggestion, when you do the texture layer, see if you can work more onto the corners. It would help cover the join line between the two foam walls.
So many projects..... so little time.......

don't be too afraid  ;)

@wolfgirl, these are very neat buildings - Your dabbing technique looks very convincing and the arches are really cut perfect!

welcome to the forum - are You a wargaming family?
I somehow have the feeling that "dad" is here already  ;)

may I humbly suggest to add to the perfection of Your buildings by making the seams of the foamboard disappear (like Dewbakuk already suggested)?
I know this problem, it comes from the material difference between the surface and the core of the foamboard.
If cutting the edges to join in a 45° angle is not an option and evening out with filler too much work, covering the foam parts with thin paper glued with a stiff glue and then sanding the thinner seams helps.

please keep us posted

Welcome aboard, young lady! Keep up the good work.  Like a couple of members have mentioned, the wall joints created by gluing foam core boards together can be unsightly.  You might want to invest in a Rabbet Cutter.  It slices off a thin strip along the edge of the board so the corners are recessed and you don't have any exposed foam to worry about.  Here's a couple of available styles.  I have one similar to the blue version.

Why take Life seriously? You'll never get out of it alive!

Nice work and welcome to the forum too! I too would like to know what game they are for.
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

The buildings are for a game that my dad does, he calls it Pulp Alley.
Thanks for the tips and ideas! We'll be sure to try those out.
We're going to see Avatar tonight so there won't be more pictures for a couple days.

Welcome to the forum!

They look really nice, very neatly painted and obviously very well put together. You've got quite a town growing there.

I wish my Dad was into war gaming... I'll get him hooked, yet! Good on the both of you for such a splendid job. Looking forward to seeing how it all looks when it's done.

Okay, we're up to nine new buildings glued together. Unfortunely, painting has fallen behind scedule. I had to give Wolf Girl a few days off, as I can't afford another union strike. And here are some new pics --

THANKS!
