Stunning paint jobs! I'm tempted to do Force Publique, as soon as I've finished painting up my Explorers and Jungle Cannibals armies (got some way too go yet though). What colours did you use to paint the bases?

Plastic Bertrand, Kim Clijsters (spell?), Jacques Brel (Adieu Curé, je vais mourir... ), Justine Henin, Audrey Hepburn, Adolphe Sax, Albert I ("I rule a country, not a highway!" - take that, Kaiser Bill!). Think that's me out, unless you want me to start on obscure footballers and some even more obscure tennis players.

Cram: GW Desert Yellow + GW Bestial Brown. Drybrushed with Coat d'Arms Desert Sand. A few choice stones picked out with a white highlight and then the whole thing given a drink of GW Gryphon Sepia wash.

Ewwww!  Justine Henin!    hate her.

Kim Clisters, when she was relatively chubby, now she was kinda cute (couldn't volley or hit a running forhand, but had a nice booty)

Plynkes, you think i could find comparable minis in 15mm for Force Publique, Belgians?

Reigning USTA Florida, and National 50+ Singles Champion  (tennis)  TWO Time Florida 50+ Singles Champion!  Just won State 2019!

My favourite Belgian tennis player was Dominique van Roost. She seemed nice. Trouble is she wasn't any bloody good.

Sorry Smokey, I'm a bit out of my element talking about 15mm. If nobody makes them then French Tirailleurs Senegalaise have vaguely similar uniforms (similar enough for 15mm maybe anyway), though I admit I have no idea if anybody makes them either. We need Allen on the case. Asking on TMP might be a plan, as you have more chance of catching someone who knows.

Great stuff , they are certainly in vogue at the moment , I have just finished the native elements of my force (all bar  the bases which I am still pondering on) , theres a quick snap on my blog. I agree they are lovely to paint , I dont think I have ever done 45 or so figures so quickly. Just finished reading King Leopolds Ghost and have started The Fall of the Congo Arabs by Sidney Langford Hinde which doesnt seem too much of a chore for an original work.

Nice one, Mors. Looking damn good. Seeing your drummer makes me want to paint mine (I had cast him aside in favour of the bugler - who needs two musicians?).

(Hope you don't mind me posting this here.)

You'll have to show us more of these pics when you have some. Between you, me, Ray and Mortimer we're building quite a LAF Force Publique. Imagine if we combined them all in one force. Would just need someone for them to fight.  :)

If I get my musketeers done before Friday I will actually try and have a game over the weekend and take some pics, it will be a what if scenario as they will be up against Carl Peters German expedition who seem to have wandered considerably further West than they should have done!

Thats the other reason I wanted to do these , the options for historical oppponents are quite varied.......Azande, other Congo tribes including cannibals, pygmies, Mahdists, Zanzibaris and with a bit of imagination French ,Brits and Germans all had territories with  borders. Not that I have to tell you that!!

My Azande turned up yesterday so they may get into bat next although the Brigade Germans are in contention.

I also have in a the lead pile some Brigade WW1  FP  so would quite easy to to do early war as well, probably not  use the ones with cummerband if Im feeling picky that day.

Dear Plynkes,

I just found the link for some toy soldier company which has  some alternative paint scheme of those force publique, probably wrong but nice. the band seems interesting (when you make one, this will be the paint scheme!)
