VSF Japanese
« on: January 13, 2010, 03:07:28 PM »
Okay i'm thinking of getting some Japanese to expand my game play from Aeronnef to foot troop's.

Any suggestions on who does the better range's.  I've been looking about and a lot of European countries ahve a good lion's share of the releases.

Become who you really are... [/i]

Redoubt Boxer range is the first one that springs to mind, I did some in the last LPL

and Vonkluge did some of the Old Glory ones

Can't think of any others although JimBibbly may be able to help as he is doing a similar force himself

Parroom Station makes Japanese VSF Troops. There sold by Brigade Games

They also make Japanese smoke stalkers as well as some steam tech for them. I had some of these and liked them alot but let them go when I was trying to thin out my figures.

Bullshot has some splendid Japanese, I suspect he will give you some advice. In fact search this forum, I am sure he has posted examples, or the GASLIGHT Yahoo group or here:

The Parroom Station ones are very nice, I have them all bar the cavalry , they are a slender 28mm. They do some nice characters including a General. I have a few Redoubt too and they are ok as well , I have not got a problem mixing them but you would need to be fairly tolerant of style change. I would imagine it would be easier and cheaper to get from Redoubt although in my experiance Brigades service from the states is pretty good. There are a few pics of the Parroom ones on my blog, click on Japanese...err strangely enough.

Watch out for some of the Redoubt figures, the castings can be a bit dodgy and the Paroom are a bit thin but there are plenty to choose from with Paroom.

I've been using Perry Samurai aswell, they were crap in the game but looked awsome  :D

Museum Miniatures have a few 28mm Samurai bits too.
Their range is based on 1600 rather than VSF but there are some splendid pieces - retainers carrying supplies, a lord signalling with a fan, and they are all unarmoured so might not look too bad in a VSF setting.

As an added bonus, Museum Miniatures always have a January sale - so there is 25% off the price until the end of the month.

dying in white gloves....

don't know about the japanese uniforms, but the Russian ones are pretty inaccurate as far as I know.
but at least we can see how big the Arisaka rifles were...

and that the 11" Krupp siege guns did not have recoil  ;)
and the japanese officers glued their beards on...

sorry, I'm not very enthusiastic about these kinds of war movies....

Check Urban Mammoth Triads as a few of them might make some good character/special units if you avoid the sci fi guns.

Thanks guys i might look out the Redoubt ones.  Simply because i'm in the UK and they are closer so i pay less in shipping if i do a small order.

I notice Brigade are doing the Parroom Station stuff so if i can get someone else at club interested i might go there instead..I guess down to more choice :D

Now to wade through my horde of Osprey books to see if i have one that covers the era  ???
