Proper toy soldiers, almost

After a long walk in the dessert I have come back to paint some miniatures. Following a old method to jump start myself I've painted something on a spontaneous fancy: a squad of Eureka Grenadier Guards armed with SMLE MK IV. I ordered them about two years ago for a purpose almost forgotten.



(God damn bayonets bend easy, there's a chip gone on it. Still, high lead content, so they bend rather than snap)

As I painted these it struck me how old school they are: these are the kind of soldiers grandpa Hammers must have put the brush to. Proper tin soldiers which wouldn't look amiss in The Nutcracker



There are eight of them altogether. They were intended for a Whimsical World War II scenario at the Tower ('Free Mosley!'). Now I am not sure what to do with them. Letting them pose for propaganda posters, perhaps...



Obviously the very Englishness of them all attracted me...



I am sure they can be used for VBCW, throwing their hats in with Sir Winston...



Or perhaps going on zombie hunt with Lizzie...



..or just patrolling the grounds...

Just fuckin' with you, Hammers. I love them! Gorgeous job you've done on them, one and all. You may not post huge quantities of stuff these days, but rest assured you haven't lost your touch.

naah, as Mosley reaches for power, the foot guards got amalgamated and partly replaced with fascist troops 
look for the historical  example 
that could be a strange idea to actually paint guard miniatures ...

As I posted these on GWP I got the tip that Ironclad makes Grenadier guards with SMLEs to. I wasn't aware they did anything but steam landships and guns. This command group could come in handy:

By the way, how was your walk through the dessert? Sticky?? I think I would prefer to walk through the dessert instead of the desert as well!!
