The Last Remake of Beau Geste
« on: January 23, 2010, 02:42:33 AM »
I can barely remember it, but I remember it made me laugh a lot.

Was it good for terrain inspiration? I can't recall.

It is hard to come by in DVD.  I periodically try Amazon for the director's cut (the best version, BTW) and never find it.

(I saw Matakishi's fort tutorials, and I have some fun  FFL siege rules, so it may be a possibility in the future )

Guy's it's that spoof by and starring Marty Feldman, if you are unfamiliar with it.

Almost all French Foreign Legion movies are good for inspiration.  If you want to look at some miniatures to inspire miniatures, take a look at the "Red Shadow" section of www.warflag.com for FFL and other colonial games set in the desert.
Sailors have more fun!

Oh yeah, I know the Red Shadow site.

I wish he updated his terrain/buildings section!  (It's been years!)

His market stands/kiosks are nice!

I am just trying to remember specifics on the last remake, but can't.

I know they had a fort, but was it "Zirndorf"?  I guess it probably is.(sp?)

Fort Zinderneuf.
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

I remember going to see that at the ABC Cinema in Hull on release. At the time I thought it was hilarious, Though I'm not sure 40 something me will be quite as easily amused as 11 y/o me!
I seem to remember a camel with three humps and a 'Viking' funeral that involved ashes being flushed down the toilet.
I guess you had to be there  lol

According to the Wikipedia page the "director's" cut has never actually seen a release https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Remake_of_Beau_Geste

Which seems a shame.

However now you've reminded me I might just order the DVD and add it to my collection of 70s comedies (alongside Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Top Secret, Airplane...)
