Can you still get pearlescent paints? Might make for a good carapace.

All the old citadel metallics would be nice, I've got the whole range, imagine that the metallic green and purple would be great.

Tamiya used to do some nice metallic paints too - I used their metallic blue on quite a few figures.

You may gather some useful hints from the "how to create Metallic Red" question I've asked some time ago:

This should also work for other metallic colors

It’s a good thing all the nids I have around here aren’t actually mine.  Cause else  I would be doing this right now. Damn those look just right. some of the space hulk stealers have mandiles, and they are mine, but I aint putting anything on them.

Wooohooo!

I just realised that they're infact cockroaches!

They will be brown.

There will be blood.

You might consider giving them additional eyes in the air holes on the holes on the side of the head. I am not sure if it would work but blue tacking it might just reveal a even better look.

AS you can see cockroaches only have 2 eyes.

So I guess they will remain breathing holes or brain vents or something.  lol

Regarding metallic colours: Japanese airplanes during WWII had an interesting colour for interio bits called Aotake. It was a metallic blue-green (the older and more exposed to air the greener it would become). There are of course ready-made Aotake bottles (Tamiya has one but I do not like the shade particularly) but you can get excellent results by spraying Tamiya Clear Blue and Green over any aluminum shade. I see no reason that this would not work with other shades (Clear Red and Orange are available as far as I know) and the effect is quite interesting. Not quite metallic, not quite non-metallic. Go ahead and try it; it should work well enough. However, do not expect to be able to do much layering with it.

Nice looking bugs though; they'd look down right scary against anything 20mm.

Nice one Thorbjorn!

I think some with wings would be good. I made a load of wings from clear plastic packaging. You can draw veigns and blood vessels on with a thin permanant marker pen.

Oho, I have to go find them now...

Especailly as last night at the LGS, our most prominent (i.e. loud) player had an absolute tizzy fit over one of us calling Tyranids 'bugs'.

"They are not BUGS, they are more like a multilegged dinosaur, you (edited) piece of (editied)!"

He actually quit the game and stormed out...and I remembered these, and the paint job just makes it more beautiful.

Am I bad for wanting to duplicate this just to annoy him?

I really like these bugs , both the modelling and the paint jobs are excellent . I hope I'm not getting inspired too much though.
