Casualties of War
« on: January 31, 2010, 05:55:26 PM »
I mentioned on the forum a couple of weeks ago that my project for part of January would be doing some casualty markers for the Western Front "Through the Mud and the Blood" games we're playing.  I used Steve's generic casualty figure for quite a few of the casualty bases (many thanks again Steve), with the other figures being Great War Miniatures.  The (lethal) barbed is from Forgeworld.

A couple of British casualties on the German wire.  The bases can fit with sections of intact wire and crushed wire...

Some Great War Miniatures casualty markers...

Stellungsbatallion casualty, with shredded telephone wire (inspired by Phil's telephone operator), for use in the front line trench...

More fallen stellungsbatallionkampfer and Pardoulon rat...

The destroyed version of a German machine gun pit for use in the wooded terrain I'm building (inspired by the picture on page 72 of the Osprey Campaign book on "Cambrai 1917") for Copse 125.....

A really interesting project, if a sobering one.  February project, some living figures and some more terrain, I think!!

Sidney

Wonderfully done - despite the grim subject matter.
Beautiful modelling nonetheless. Lovely groundwork. Wonderful attention to detail. Well done sir.

The shellhole full of water is first class - what did you use for the water (I have a model water fixation - sorry, I always have to ask!)

Captain Blood,

Many thanks for the kind comment.  The water effect I use is called "Solid Water", and is a two part resin/hardener which you mix to create a hardened effect to the water.  I always get mine from "4D Models" in London - they do mail order.  I've tried the other gel based waters, but I like the hardened effect you get with the two part resin/hardener.  "Solid Water" takes about a day to dry and I tend to pour the mixture in thin layers.  It's pretty easy to colour the water with acrylic paint for a muddy effect to the water.

Cheers

Hi Sidney,

Great work on your project. Nice to see some realistic scenes that capture the genre quite well.

Wonderfully done - despite the grim subject matter.

My thoughts exactly! I have not seen many miniature painters capture the pathetic and sad aspect of war like this before. Well done.
