New Jungle Ruins (WiP photos, 4 Feb)
« on: February 02, 2010, 07:34:27 PM »
With a pair of upcoming convention games set in a jungle ruin, I decided (on a week's notice to the 1st of these games!) that I needed more ruined bits.

A couple of scrap CDs, a piece of 1" white foam beadboard, some spackle, and we're off:

The grey fine gravel just got glued down; before I go out this afternoon I'll hit the plaster with sandpaper quickly to smooth it out just a bit, then black basecoat when I get home tonight. Painting finished tomorrow and flocking and other foliage started, and hopefully these things won't still be dripping glue by the time Saturday morning's pulp game starts up!

These are chunkier, more cyclopean ruins than previous builds. Non-Euclidean geometry and general squamousness might even be involved...

Painting basically done, barring a bit more drybrushing for highlights, and (if I get around to it) a black wash to pop the cracks and recesses a bit.

First layer of flocking down; tomorrow a lot more foliage goes on. Which hopefully dries before Friday evening, when I have to transport them to get to Saturday's 45A convention game!

The big stelae on the right will eventually get some sort of carving or something across that bare front face, but that certainly ain't happening before Saturday!

Great looking ruins - are they going to get covered in protective elder sigils or left generic?

Those are nice - more stuff on my Want list!

These ruins will stay bare of runes, carving and sigils for now, mostly due to a lack of time to create any at the moment. I would like to do something on the front face of the big stelae stone at some point, though. A Chtulhoid tentacled face, or maybe just something Mayan-ish.

Larger & More Notes on Flickr.

Three of the four new ruin pieces in use, in a .45 Adventures pulp game I ran last Saturday at our local con. (game report over on the 45A sub-board.

The three big pieces in the foreground are the new ones; the ruins in the background are older stuff, made with a mix of Fimo oven-bake clay and hydrostone cast Hirst Arts blocks.

The big temple platform in the centre of the photo is entirely HA blocks.

Yep.  That's always a great thing when we get tips and construction info.
