Ertl Airplane Banks that are suitable for pulp gaming
« on: February 03, 2010, 07:02:35 PM »
Having recently purchased an Ertle Keystone Loening Amphibian airplane bank I found it was hard to find out what scale it was. Therefore, I am drawing up a list of all Ertle airplane banks that are the right size for 25-28mm gaming (OK maybe not exactly the right size but who makes 1/56 size airplanes). These planes are sturdier than kits and are either 1/43 or 1/48 in size. Besides showing a picture I also included a little info on the plane.

I have gotten seven posted so far, but more will be following shortly.

I also post some not so great pictures of my Keystone Loening next to some miniatures for size comparison.

Nice - shame we can't get them over in the UK
They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

Sure you can. It's called E-bay.  Just take your time and be patient waiting for a baragain because the planes usually go for too much.

I've added a couple more planes and pictures to my site. A Lockheed Orion and a very nice Franklin Mint Junker F13. The Junkers that Franklin Mint is very fine but they always want a mint for it.

This is a great pulp plane.  Wish you all the best of luck finding them, but probably just in the USA.

That's a good cheap choice alright. I bought one, but I use it as an Electra Jr (Model 12). Its close enough (one too many windows on the side) and is a better scale (1/54) vs. 1/60 is used as an Electra Model 10.

Thanks for posting this. I'm always curious to know which models go well with 28mm figures.

BTW, what is a 'bank'? Does one keep money in these aeroplane models?

The Franklin Mint model is just a model, but the others are actual banks to put your coins in that look like airplanes. Sometimes this leaves you with a slot to cover up.
