Project Steampunk/mech 1st attempts FINISHED! 19-02-2010
« on: February 07, 2010, 07:44:43 PM »
This is the start of my attempts to create a Steampunk/Mech based vehicle.

Having never attempted to build anything from scratch its a bit hit and miss.

Basically its a semi autonomous tracked unit which will mount a light weapon, powered by an elementary electrical engine created by a gentleman scientist (I think it helps to have a bit of story when coming up with these things! ;) ).

Oh.

Thinking of keeping all of my mech based creations in one place.

This is something I have completed. was going to be used as a Deff Dread for my sons Ork army, but developed into something else.

I call it the 'egg robot'.  It has been said that it owe a little to Eggman from Sonic the Hedgehog.

Great work! I'll be interested about the outcome of the first vehicle  :)

The mech is looking excellent.

Look forward to seeing it all gussed up in paint and all.   :)

Thanks for the comments.

The tracked guy is coming on well. I'm fairly pleased with it so far.....

These look good. Looking at the pics are you putting layers of green stuff on to styrene balls? I bought a heap of styrene balls and eggs from Hobbycraft and I haven't really thought of a use for them other than blimps or balloons.
Don't!

Yes! and mine are from Hobbycraft too! They are not ideal as the Green Stuff doesn't adhere too well without pushing and pulling it. I initially took the route of green stuffing the entire surface then 'plating' them up.

They're both really cool.

The first one looks like something from the pages of Modern Mechanix, and the second one is like an Orky version of the robot from Monsters Vs Aliens. Very nice work.

@ Ramshackle_Curtis.
The hatch on top is yours too! I have another on the go using some of your armor plates.

@ Tacgnol.
Thanks.

An update.

Some extra bits added and some paints splashed (sprayed) on. need to touch up the base coat then start working on the colour scheme. The majority will become fairly dark and drab metals with highlights showing recent use and wear and tear. I may attempt some rusting on this mini.

There is also another I am working on too, a walker.

The legs are fairly simple. The next one I do will show a lot more gubbins.

Started painting the tracked mech. Will have some new pics up by this evening.

UPDATE:
WIP.

Working on the metal plates, added some ink washes and and bring a few back up with highlights. Got to tone down the optics and the weapons port at the front.

Minor update:

Not much to show, hit a bit of a rut with things at the moment.
Plates washed with ink then highlighted with a few light Drybrushes.
onto the tracks next and the electrical generator behind behind.

I have 'finished' this effort.

My painting skills are lacking but I am pleased with the results.

Onto the next ones I think.
