54mm gladiators

I found out recently that Blackcat Miniatures carries the old 54mm Alpha Gladiator sculpts, so I bought a few and, if you're bored, I invite folks to view them at my blog: http://carmensminiaturepainting.blogspot.com/

looks very good, and I think this is a perfect genre/setting for larger minis. Would make a really eye-catching convention game.

I used a palette of mixed manufacturers (Foundry and Games Workshop): I used, from base to highlight, Foundry Flesh 5A mixed 50/50 with Games Workshop Dwarf flesh, then unmixed Dwarf Flesh, Foundry Flesh 5B, GW Elf flesh, and Foundry Flesh 5C. Somewhere between Dwarf flesh and Foundry 5C, I'll throw in a GW Sepia ink wash.
I use GW's tanned flesh for nipples and lips where applicable (though I don't know if the color is available anymore.)

Thanks a lot EC. It sounds like I am using a lot of the same colors, just winding up too pale. I'll try throwing the wash in and taking it easier on the lighter tones next time.

Well done, sir. I got to Alpha right as they went out of business, but Black Cat's acqusition of these fine minis was a great boon to we gladiator enthusiasts.

I'm using Red Sands, Blue Sky by Two Hour Wargames, though I might try Habet, Hoc Habet (by Flagship games). I like RSBS for its solitaire suitability since not all my friends are into minis games.

Nice figures.  Excellent Blog.  Your painting is crisp.  I would be very interested to see how you built that Nile Steamer and how you put together your Ghostbusters force.  I am a Ghostbusters fanboy and amateur scrapbuilder myself.
