Holger Doebold from Ostafrica Yahoo group posted his Africa game report with some very nice pics, i would like to share it with you:
"At the beginning of May the biggest Spanish annual wargaming' event
took place in Alcorcon, a town about 20 miles from Madrid. For me it
was the first time I staged a game at such an event. Of course I had
to use what was available as preparing something completely new
requires months of preparation. So I decided to play once more a
Darkest Africa scenario involving German and Masai forces (Carl
Peters' Emin Pascha Relief expedition). There was however time to
prepare some additional elements: my Masai kraal got new fencing and
a figure I picked up at Salute in London at Hasslefree Miniatures was
integrated as a pretty village chief daughter. Other figures prepared
for the event were some servants, an elephant and waterline
crocodiles from Amazonmimiatures.
We played two different scenarios and on the two days of the event
some 15 visitors who never had played colonial games participated and
enjoyed (including my son with up to now only has played Warhammer).
1st scenario: Carl Peters occupies the Masai kraal early in the game
and defends it until the rest of the expedition led by A.v.Tiedemann
joins Peters' askaris. A local village chief of the Wagogo tribe
tries to catch the opportunity and steal some cattle from the Masai.
2nd scenario: The expedition leaves the kraal heading for Uganda and
has to repel a massive charge by the Masais.
We had a lot of fun. It was a source of motivation to enter bigger
projects. I plan to recreate a section of the Congo river, huge
jungle trees, steamers and native canoas.
P.S.: If any colonial wargamer from this group should ever visit
Madrid, send me a mail and we could arrange for a game at our "Club
Dragon" in central Madrid.
Best regards, Holger."
