what everyone else said!   :-* :D

The Steam Ambulator (or steam trousers) were made by me, using the legs from a mage knight figure with the superstructure being scratch built from plastic tubing, washers and green stuff.

As Plynkes said - very "Wrong Trousers". Hilarious and absolutely superb! The belly-mounted Gatling is a masterstroke.

I normally don't care much for two-legged walkers, but I wish I had some of these  :(

Thanks for the nice comments about the steam vehicles.

Do I recognise the legs from a Space Crusade Chaos Dreadnaught propping up the rearward steam-howdah?

Congratulations on spotting the source of the legs. Unfortunately you win no pounts and no prizes  :)

BTW - the chassis of the steam carriage is taken from a 1/43 scale monster truck toy - the rest of the toy is now a wrecked pickup terrain piece for my 1/48 modern Africa setup (using HLBS figures).

The small mechanical robots in picture 6, are they from the Mage Knight line of figures or Star Wars?

As Bullshott says, they are Mage Knight - Whirling Golems to be precise. The arms and bodies on the models have been cut and repositioned using superglue and pins to give some variety in pose. The painting was very simple - black undercoat with Vajello Brass drybrush and then detailing with a mix of Vajello Brass/Oily Steel and then a final Oily steel highlight.

Here's the unit in more detail with their controller Mustapha Ham-Ah.

The Mage Knight range contains a number of useful figures for VSF (imo). I used a pair of legs from another golem for the Steam Ambulator, and a Maelstrom Golem was the basis for a simple conversion to make the Harding-Braithwaite Steam Powered Vegetation Eradicator below;

Head was removed and a cavity produced with a dremel to allow the fitting of a half figure (foundry DA explorer). Added a boiler/radiator from the bit box before the addition of extra rivets. Finished in a Vajello Mid Blue over a humbrol panzer grey spray undercoat. Dry-brushed with GW space wolves grey. Fittings and details in Vajello Brass.

As you can see the H-B SPVE was the inspiration for the 'Dancing Citroen' advert some 100 years later.

Dr De'Ath.

It's threads like this that take me from complete indifference of a genre to IT MUST BE MINE in about a day and a half.
