Both are great, but the Purging the Witch is very dramatic and evocative of its subject.

Hammers, who produces those figures?

One miniature is too many, and a thousand are not enough...

Cool to see the Venerable Thaumaturge painted! I'd love to see some detail shots once the competition is over.  I've had one of those kicking around for ages, looking for an excuse to paint it.  Very gorgeous model, though it look likes it'ss be a bear to fill all of the gaps!

Nice job by both entrants.  The Reich zombies are simple, very cleanly painted, and striking.  The Purging is quite dramatic and well done as well.

The Fransiscan brethren are WW monks from their Gothic Horror range, except the abbot on horse which is a Gamezone miniature.

The zombie wolves are also Gamezone but the witch is a Wyrd Malifaux mini.

The Thaumaturge (abbot) is indeed a spectacular model, lots of little surprising detail which are wasted on the casual viewer. Luckilly, thinks I, the overall appearance is not shabby either.

That was a tough choice.  Both entries are very well painted but the second entry was so visually "busy" that it took me a while to fully see what was going on.

Both great entries.

Ye Gods! I honestly can't make up my mind.  :(
I love the simple, bold, beautifully executed paintwork and vivid blood on CWCHMC's entry.
I also love the sheer scenic, cinematic panache of Hammers teeming diorama.
Sheesh.

You must do more close up sHammers after this round finishes as there is so much gpoing on in that little diorama, it is superb

A really tough choice - as other posters have said, two very well executed groups of minis. For my own mind for the LPL voting I try and focus on the minis at hand and find that the dioramas make that a little harder to do (which probably puts me in a minority, since the dioramas are excellent on the whole, and have drawn a lot of praise). So for me, Zombie Reich.

That said, both are excellent and it was almost too close ro call for me except fopr the proviso I mentioned. Kudos to both entrants.

Brilliant setup, very nicely painted miniatures and good photography on Hammer's entry, just love it!

*laughs reading the comments*

Yes, I realize I tend to make my displays a little busy. I am a bit burdened by being a scenographer and staring off as a diorama builder.

Also I had all these monks (12) since way back, added the abbot because it is such a stonking mini, ordered four wolves to reach the stipulated five zombies and added the witch because she ties things together from a storytelling perspective. The trees don't really help either do they?! To top things off I added the Man in the Grey Suit and His Dog.

With so many miniatures, and with the wolves so big, you get not only a cramped scene but also a depth of focus problem.

But going by your voting it looks like more is, well, more...

I can honestly say that I like cwchmc's style very much, it is the kind of entry I very often vote for. Mine just don't end up that way.

I loved the scenography, so Hammers get my vote.

Hope that old-timer can find his spell quick-like.

I am sure he is using the old all purpose:

"From goulies and ghosties and long-leggedy beasties
And things that go bump in the night
Good Lord, deliver us!"

At least that's what I painted in the book there... ;)
